155 fights 7 stoppages that is incredibly light, well if Tommy Hearns grown into his body it proves muscular growth effects punching power. Be scientific about it punching is a muscular movement. Ofcourse you could increase the power.
Both, some guys are just born they have it and are just freaks other guys can learn it KO power is also from accuracy of the punch, the delivery, where it lands, if the guys sees it, hand speed etc etc you can learn to be a KO artist
you can develop and work on punching power, but you have either got a KO dig on you or you aint, i remember a young kid at my old gym he was 8 stone wet through but when he landed his right hand he could of knocked a building over, no amount of training can give you that, born with it..:bbb
If you're Mexican, Black, and White than you're born with it if you have it. If you're Asian than you must be on peds....at least according to this site.
I started a similar thread as yours some time ago about punching power ! IMO punching power is something naturally like speed ! There are skiny guys who have really heavy hands when they hit ! I think it's all about the genetic structure : Solid bones and tendons ! Marcos Maidana is a good exemple of power puncher ! He's not very muscled-ripped , he hasn't impresive speed or technique but he can crack you with his shots !
strong muscles dont mean big muscles, punching is a muscular movement..... i highly doubt the bones or tendons are involved, bones or tendons dont generate force.
A lot of it is natural I think.Of course you IMPROVE upon nature by good training. I mean do you think its a lack of hard training, that makes Malignaggis punches weak?
I'm a strong believer that when it comes to 'pure' punching power, you are born with it. Prince Naseem had tremendous punching power. Foreman is a great example, as is Maidana. Then you have technique, timing etc that can be incorrectly conceived as punching power. Ali for example was never the hardest puncher but his incredible speed and timing allowed him to catch an opponent when most vulnerable. Or take PBF for example. IMO he has very mediocre punching power, but watch the first knockdown against Hatton where he hits him going back. Not really punching power but incredible timing.
well heres something for you all fighters that Strongly believe in Weight training have high percentage KO ratio. Mosley, Pavlik, De La hoya, Arthur abraham. are they the greatest fighters ever? no, but do they have high ko ratios.
