God given is the talent part, the other part is technique.

For example Cunningham has no punch:
Right hand: He doesn't move his shoulder into the punch=weak straight right. It's most of the time an arm punch.
Jab: If he uses a high guard his left is too high to properly throw a good jab.

If there was a god why would he bless people with the ability to punch hard(er), seems a bit cruel, no?

Its natural, and the best punchers are born.

I appreciate all the feedback, I got in to boxing as an amateur fairly late around 16/17 most pros have been boxing since they were like eight years old. I dont have very quick hands, not a lot of footwork or anything flashy. But the great equalizer has been my chin and punching power. I learned how to throw hooks uppercuts overhands and straight rights just as anyone does but once i got the movements down correctly I had heavy punches. thats really my weapon in the ring. i dont mean for this to sound egotistical but its just what happened. having the mentality of the puncher you can give rounds a way easilly and still know that you can win if a solid blow connects its kind of interesting

  6. Technique can make you punch as hard as you can but that freak KO power is God given. Valuev has no power but is the biggest ever. Tyson was 5'10 and already a hard puncher from the age of 13 or 14 according to his trainers.

I believe I'd attribute my punching power to a devotion to the pushup exercise.

Spot on if you ask me. The increased strength can be obtained by (the correct way of) working/training with weights to increase intra- and intermuscular coordination.

You don't need weights. Bodyweight exercises are some of the very best.

    Power is definatley god given.

I turned pro at golf and for 3 years 1999 - 2001 played on the european circuits and there were kids who just hit it miles without any effort.

I went to the gym , packed on about 16lbs of muscle and added very little distance.

Punching is a natural transition of power through the body which can be adjusted , but it has to start naturally.

This applies to many sports where you transfer weight from the lower part of your body. Tennis , Golf , boxing, cricket , baseball.

I say it's a natural thing, but you can learn to increase your power. I didn't start hitting hard until I fully got the technique down and my cousin never took a lesson in his life and stunned my brother with a single punch. God giving gift.
