He was finished, though. What have you got against Marciano, Mac? You rarely give him credit(apart from the one on his conditioning). Do you think he's overrated as a puncher?

It's the whole Dempsey / Marciano thing. If McVey gives Marciano too much credit some pedantic poster will swoop down and use that as ammunition for the next round of gunnery between the Axis and the Allies :D In my humble opinion, of course LOL

There has been debate since Marciano was champion as to how great he really was.

Debating Dempseys greatness is a new phenomenon.

Rocky also wore guys down with a series of hard shots. The Moore fight comes in mind.

Also Frazier definitely had one punch KO power. The Foster KO comes to mind.

With all that said, I think Rocky had more punch power. The Walcott KO is one of the hardest punches ever caught on film. He had devastating power.

Kind of off topic, but Rocky also missed the best punches I've ever seen! His punching form was totally unique, nobody ever came close.

I don't think Frazier ever did anything with his right as devastating as what Marciano did to Matthews with his left hook. In 104 bouts, that's the only time Kid Matthews was ever laid out. He may have been a light heavyweight, but in the summer of '43, he took on Jack Chase and Eddie Booker at a time those two were much more experienced, both were winning over the championship distance and beating Archie Moore. Barely a month after Lowry, Harry did something the Rock failed to do twice. He actually handed Tiger Ted his first knockout loss.

Matthews was coming off a decisive win over Rex Layne to get to Rocky, and was no Bob Foster when it came to dealing with heavyweight competition. What Marciano did to him with that hook is extremely impressive.

Doug Jones, Ziggy and Bob Foster were the final three ten count wins of Frazier's career, Jones with a six round beat-down.

Vingo, Layne, Beshore (the only time that happened to Freddie), Matthews, JJW I & II, Charles II and Moore were all ten count wins for Rocky, and Louis would have been if Ruby Goldstein gave a full toll instead of calling an immediate halt. In the last 15 years of his career, only Marciano and Patterson put Moore down for ten, and it wouldn't happen to Charles again for another 20 bouts over four years.

As Marciano stepped up in class, his ability to put a man down for a full count actually improved appreciably.

    Let’s put it this way.

If Frazier had hit as hard as Marciano with that hand speed, it’s hard to imagine anybody standing up to his punches.

Mathews stopped a 178lbs Lowry and a Layne whom Marciano had brutalised.
Would you like to tell us about all the other "heavies" he beat?

Beshore was ko'd in the first round by Bill McClure ,the fight lasted less than half a minute. Mathews had 36 fights under his belt when he took on Chase and Booker, both of them beat him.

Marciano hit harder and he could hit you with both hands so the danger was double....Frazier put a lot into his left hook and worked body and head but while both men wore you down and doubled up well on the hook Marciano had a great right hand and could land the awkward shot on you, while Frazier's rhythm could be timed ....Power = Rocky

Although Frazier had a lot of power in his left hook Marciano is arguably the hardest puncher of all time. Marciano really got his whole body involved in his punches.

Micky Mantle was close to the same height and weight as Marciano and hit some of the longest home runs all time. And you can see why when you watch his swing although he was not that big of hitter he used his entire body in his swing just like Marciano did with his punches.
