what do you guys think helps out on punching power. i been told that you need rotation some people tell me that the triceps should be your main focus
and i been told that forearm strength contributes to power too. what do you guys think?

Focus on your body as a whole unit, not just single parts. Power starts in your feet, drives with your legs, forces through your midsection and then transfers through your arms into your hands and delivers. If the whole motor is tuned at the best potential the over all engine will perform better.

To answer your question though, some people will tell you stay classic and do push ups and pull ups while the more modern-minded athletes (myself included) will tell you heavy squats/deadlifts and Olympic lifts that use explosive motion will help you become a stronger and faster athlete.

This brother said it best. Power comes from the BODY, not necessarily just the arms.

AMEN bro! On both posts! Forearm strength is a wierd one but I think its just cos you have a more stable point to transfer power (or somethng)

throwing power punches takes a lot of experience and practice
the biggest factor in punching power is technioque,co-ordination,timing, and using the whole body in the correct fashion (in the above listed manner)
secondly it comes down to speed of the movement - not just of the arm but the whole body movement
and finally strength plays a part especially in the legs which have to move a lot of weight (the whole body) and the torso to a lesser degree and the arms mainly for tightening the punch on impact(this is where the forearm comes into play)
the triceps are defenitely not the main focus because all they do is straighten your arm
most power comes from the legs and torso
the shoulders and arms must be loose and relaxed

I think you should just get in shape and learn how to box. Don't worry about all the theories.

Just keep to boxing alot and keep your training specific. Any sort of anaerobic conditioning will greatly help your stamina AND power, especially power. Occasionally do things like clapping pushups, lateral jumps, burpees, pullups and the like and you'll have tonnes of power.

try sitting in a chair and throwing punches... even rotating your body... Now do the same thing standing up...

Their is NO QUESTION where the majority of the power comes from... the legs.

But you must use the legs to rotate your hips, which rotates your upper body, which brings the shoulder around which allows you to simply extend your arm to the opponent's face and squeeze/lock upon contact to transfer all that power...
