I'm writing an article to get exposure for boxers that have gave their bodies up for our entertainment, and was hopful to get some pointers from the forum's collective intelligence.

Who are some boxers that have been high-school-prom ditched by the sport they gave everything to, and are there any organizations you know of that are established to help these guys and girls out??

    Thanks for helping out, friends.

All fighters have made some kind of money or they wouldnt be in the sport. To say they have been ditched by the sport is a little harsh . Even Don King fighters made money , they just spent it in the wrong way.

    Hearns, Duran,benitez, many guys.
Im thinking that there should be an retirementplan for boxers, where they donate money and once they retire. they get paid monthly sums of money for years so they cant spend it all and be broke.
E.g. boxer gives 2 mil to the organization, then when he retires at say 35, for the next 40 years he gets 4160 per month to his savings account, so even if he ends up with nothing by bad decisions, he will still get plenty per month to provide for basic needs and more.

Do your own research ***!!! I'm not doing your job for you.

J/K - look into Gerald McClellan, Genaro Hernandez, Rocky Lockridge

It should be noted that most of these guys end up broke/abandoned because of their own poor decisions and demons.

I remember when McCain was talking about something similar, but what about the fighters that don't make the $2 million to deposit. It would have to be a percentage.

May I suggest changing the title to something a little less demeaning / hilarious.

Leon Spinks - As of 2005, Spinks lives in Columbus, Nebraska. He told a reporter his life is "comfortable", and that he keeps a low profile. Having trawled through all manner of odd-jobs — the most notable being a greeter at the Chicago restaurant owned by Hall of Fame American football coach Mike Ditka — Spinks now earns a living at his local McDonalds between working for the YMCA and running an after-school program for the youth of Nebraska.

Jimmy Thunders in a bad way, also fellow samoan/kiwi David Tua is broke- blamed managers and close friend Kevin Barry- went to court and got nothing, maybe his bad money management was infact closer to home.

crazy articles. I remember reading the first article in the post that came out about Barkley. I can't believe how far that went.

I wouldn't bail these guys out from there own decisions, we are all responsible for our own choices, but for there to be nothing in place for pension or education is criminal.

McClellan is a prime example of this.

    Thanks for the feedback.
