I know it has been discussed a fair bit but after reading FW's opinion in his column then I thought I'd share mine.

Lee Purdy is a British level fighter who was offered a world title shot, something he has likely dreamed of for many years and thought wouldn't happen. He was offered what was likely a great pay day, as well as the exposure, to fight DA who is hardly Ivan Drago in the power stakes. Yes we all knew he'd be outboxed easily but if it wasn't DA for good money it would've been some no name European for little money.

I'm really struggling to see where Eddie has went wrong here. If Purdy was a future world level fighter who was thrown to the lions early in his career I'd understand but as much as I like and respect Lee Purdy he is Euro level at best.

Thoughts? Information on his purse would be great also, FW said he had £15,000 taken off so what did he make?

I thought the fine was 10% of his purse so £150k was what he was due to earn I presume

So £90,000, that's a great pay day for him, I'm sure he aint complaining.

After tax and all the other fees he has to pay out it will be alot less than 90k but he will probably get what he would have been paid for say 3-4 european title fights so he still did well for himself.

Yup he won't fair chunk of but like you say he still done well. Matchroom also seem to really like him so he'll be taken care of throughout his career.

He'll be matched with Rose if and when he moves up to 154 I expect.

Matchroom did their best by him in regards to Alexander fight, who'd turn down a career high purse.

Eddie didn't do anything wrong in looking out for his fighter, but it was another shocking bout.

  11. Eddie Hearns biggest success could be termed lee purdy

Surely a promoters job is to push his fighter as high as he can and earn as much money for them both as he can

With purdy he has delivered him a big title shot as well as some decent paying intercontinental fights and a few British title fights

It's unfair to have a go at either Hearn or purdy as they both overachieved
