Pure boxer matchups

    Let’s talk about some hypothetical and actual matchups between pure boxers. They could be fantasy fights or ones that actually happened. Pure boxers only though.

    Here’s a hypothetical one - Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Pernell Whitaker. The outcome of this one might depend entirely on which weight class they fought at. I’d give Whitaker a shot at taking the narrowest of decisions at lightweight. Not sure how it would play out otherwise or elsewhere.

    Carlos Monzon vs Marvellous Marvin Hagler

    Bernard Hopkins vs James Toney

    These three are middleweight match ups that would be fun boxing studies.

    Benetiz v Leonard was a great example as per the premise. Battle of the Wunderkinds. One description stated that while Leonard won the fight, there were many occasions when his flashing fists only served to rearrange air molecules. A testament to Wilfredo’s intuitive defence.

    It's one of the greatest chess matches in boxing history.
    Leonard won on speed, aggression and power. The skills were just
    about even, maybe slightly in Benitez's favor.
    A great fight to watch too study what true world class boxers
    use to look like.
