Of course the wrestler would be the heavy favorite. It is a hell of a lot easier to take down a guy with no wrestling experienced than it is to knock out a guy with one punch before he can get his hands on you. It is hard enough just to land a clean shot on a really good wrestler as he is attempting takedown... let alone hoping that the one shot knocks him out. It isn't exactly as if you can plant your feet and throw heat or combinations at a guy taking you down either. It's really a no brainer.

Of course, individuals are different and not every wrestler is cut out for fighting, ect... but the odds are heavily stacked in the wrestler's favor.

  2. not to argue the point too much..but you dont really need to "knock the guy out" with one shot....hit him...stagger him back..and then follow up. I think a boxer and wrester both with 3 months cross training..ill go with the wrestler..im just not so sure about both being brand new..because in the first few weeks of striking training..most wrestlers (and most people in general) usually have alot of fear and hesitation.

"Equal skilled, equal sized boxer and wrestler" >>>

I think I know what you are trying to say there, but there's nothing equal, skills-wise, about them at all. Completely different skill-sets.

Comes down to can the boxer damage the wrestler sufficiently with strikes before the wrestler takes the boxer to the ground and submits him, and it's an almost impossible question to answer as a hypothetical.

  4. well the equal size is clear...but by equal skill.i mean a pretty good wrester vs pretty good boxer, or great wrester vs great boxer..ect..of course i reconize that different kinds of skilles are held by both. And, for example, different "styled" boxers would likely do better then other boxing styles.

I would like to meet these mythical boxers who will magically knock out everyone with a single punch whenever the wrestler "charges in" like he's some high school football player.

I tend to agree with you. If the boxer only partially stuns the wrestler as he attempts the takedown he'll still manage it. With that in mind, the wrestler should be charging the boxer at full speed and just crash-tackle him to the ground.

Makes for a silly fight really because neither of these guys has any trained defence against the other guy's skills.

  8. Yeah but i dont think its a matter of knocking out with a single punch....

Then the point is moot because the overwhelming majority of the time either just that happens or the boxer is being put flat on his ass/back.

Go to even your local high school and pick out even a moderately decent wrestler and it will be astoundingly easy for that person to take you down before you can probably even react. Now take that moderately decent high school wrestler and insert an N.C.A.A. National Champion or an Olympic calibur wrestler...

You can do the mental work, I'm sure.

  11. well....i dont know...i have found most wrestlers..unless they have trained with guys striking..they get a bit uncomfortable when you start moving and sticking out good strong jabs and trying to follow it up with rights..not saying they wont take you down often. But i also think wrestlers when they havent trained for strikes tend to react bad to that. Usually the best approach would be to charge in however.

I don't have any experience in either (I wish I did) but I'd have to go with the percentages theory and go for the wrestler.

A larger surface area for effective 'targeting', more appendages for 'targeting' (got hold of a leg or an arm? Yank and leverage. Even if a boxer hits arms or legs, that will yield lesser results). Of course, if a boxer hits flush on the temple/temple, or the ribs/solarp plexus...

    So,
    Boxer: higher risk, higher reward = has to pick and choose unleashing his weapons more selectively;
Wrestler: lower risk, lower reward = can afford to 'unleash' more often and has bigger leeway in failed takedowns

Of course, I'm assuming, on a P4P basis, that the wrestler has more cardio and stamina (considering that Joe Rogan is always screaming on about how wrestlers have the most intense conditioning). If the wrestler has BJ Penn or Jason Miller-like stamina, all bets are off.

Its a lot easier for the wrestler to take the boxer down than it would be for the boxer to get back up.
