Just because you like getting fvcked in the azz, Oscar, doesn't mean Canelo deserves it. He ought to look to fire that coke tranny.
Yeah, it says Cotto will get $10 mil for the fight plus a $12 mil site fee. And Canelo will get $6.5 mil. So the figures seem correct. Are they giving the site fee to Cotto because he's the champ? I'd think Golden Boy would have negotiated better.
So all this a-side/b-side is just bull, and it doesn't matter if you're the biggest draw. You just need the right contract and/or promoter.
I can't comprehend why Alvarez accepted that, it's a bizarre split... Canelo brings 50% of the fans and mystique to this match up, so why not demand at least 13 million lol, he's obviously not a ret*** and sees his own value, I just don't get what he's playing at...
Sometimes you have to take less money in hopes it turns into more money in the future...!!! A win over Cotto brings in more money and bigger fights...!!!
Isn't Cotto more the A-side going into this one? :huh These numbers don't really surprise me. I thought they'd be around halfway closer than they are distance wise, but I always imagined this was a Cotto "A-side" event, for as long back as I remember it being talked about.
Seldom will I root harder for a fighter than I will be rooting for Canelo. Basically what happened is Cotto was not going to fight anyone period, and Canelo said fkit. Because he thinks he can win. Now lets just hope he does.
Going strictly on recent draw, Canelo would be A-side. But as I like to remind people, its not about who got paid what - its about leverage and who brings the money to the event. Those are probably just guarantees though, who knows how much of that Roc is fronting. I doubt its truly 80/20 But still, I think this goes to show that whether we like it or not. Belts matter, and Cotto has the Ring and WBC.
Cotto has been in the driver's seat at least since he had the leverage of lineal/alphabet middleweight titles (as you concluded). And regardless of recent draw, it must be taken into consideration that: A. Canelo was utterly dominated by Floyd (referencing the "recent draw" angle) B. Cotto's win over Martinez overshadows anything that Canelo has accomplished since then You make fair points about leverage and everything, and reading through this thread I guess I'm holding a minority viewpoint, but this comes as no surprise to me - and in fact, is kind of along the lines of what I was expecting (except not quite as wide a gap as I noted previously).
Was thinking of Kirkland vs Geale regarding draw but yeah - Miguel Cotto fights when Miguel Cotto wants and Miguel Cotto is content to not fight or trash the belts if Canelo does not pay Miguel Cotto whats Miguel Cotto thinks Miguel Cotto is worth. But still I was thinking it would be closer to A+ vs A- "sides" where this looks pretty clearly like A vs B. Canelo having 6mil reported... is more or less where I thought it would be, but I honestly thought Cotto would be in the 12-15 range so that took me by surprise. I guess one thing worth remembering though, is that for tax purposes... it behooves Cotto to declare as much fight income as possible in Nevada, whereas for Canelo it behooves him to declare as little as possible in the US. I think there is good reason to believe the ultimate split is really closer to 65/35 and the difference for Canelo is not in official NSAC purse for tax and accounting purposes which gives us some insight into how much and where some revenue comes from. Which to me at least, is interesting stuff.
