The Mayweather-Pacquaio fight has stalled for many reasons, the latest perhaps being the split over the purse. In the new interview with Mayweather, the interviewers did ask one good question which went something like this: 'If you're so confident of beating him, why not agree for 70-30 split winner takes 70%' I think its a valid principle, but with so many millions riding on it, I think leaving it all in the hands of 3 judges could be asking for trouble (see Pacquaio's last 2 fights as recent examples of poor judging). I thought if they could split the purse into 2 halves. For handiness, lets say 100 million is the total PPV revenue. One half, 50mil, is guaranteed 50-50 between the 2. The split of the second half is reliant on the outcome. In the case of a SD/MD win, winner gets 60%. In the case of TKO or UD, winner gets 70%. In the case of a KO, winner gets 80%. Could this or something similar be a potential resolution to the purse argument? Has this been discussed before, what are the problems/holes in this idea, or do you see either camp agreeing to it?
It would be prizefighting at it's finest. However I can't see either party agreeing to this, Floyd won't agree because the best chance of Pac beating him is by flash KO, career at P4P #1 and unbeaten over goes home with 20% of the purse, also just say a dodgy sd/md goes home with 40%. In Pacs case, Bob will never allow this because like any good businessman they like to be able to make as much cash of their stock (In this case the Top Rank stable) as possible, with the very high likelihood of Pac losing by UD, Bob don't want whatever percentage he gets of 30% he wants a much as possible. Personally I think as Floyd is the bigger (Not by loads, but still bigger) he should get anywhere from 53-60% of the purse.
