I remember he had no sparring partners when he arrived in California, 2 weeks before the fight. Everybody was calling his team amateur. The eye problem would explain that.

What are the Calzaghe WBO type opponents?

Where you have written for the WBO at SMW consider this -
The SMW divisions first world champs were WBC 1988, WBA 1987, IBF 1984 & WBO 1988.
Now for a start it is a new division so no belt has any more prestige than the other as they were all started at a similar time. So the WBO SMW title has no less prestige than the others.
Consider also that the WBO at SMW has been involved in 4 unification bouts.
The IBF has been involved in 2
    The WBA in 3
    WBC in 4 also
This shows that the WBO has been as willing to make top fights at SMW as much as any other governing body.

Now look at the list of champs in each and who they defended against and you can see that the WBO SMW title has produced the best defences overall better than all of the other govening bodies in this particular weight division so far.
Consider how much critism Bute gets now for his IBF defences.
Consider M Beyer defending his WBC title against 26-14-5 fighter who was coming off of a win against a 0-2-0 fighter
Or that Mundine when defending the WBA title against a 24-13-5 fighter who was the same fighter that WBC champ Beyer was defending against above.

People bring up Eubank who helped mould the belt that was good enough to give T Hearns a slice of history making. Out of Eubanks 18 WBO SMW title fights 14 of those fights were against fighters who were, had been or became top 10 SMWs. One was a unification and another was against the undefeated former IBF SMW champ (relinquished his title). In fact 6 of the fighters he faced had been or became world champs

Now in Calzaghes first 5 defences and title win he had beaten Eubank, Reid and Starie 3 fighters who were top 10 world rated.
Sobot was a sub and Ferreyra had been world rated though was past his best. Thornberry was supposed to be a double bill tune up for a fight against a comebacking S Collins who didnt come back.

What Calzaghe has done in his first 6 world title fights is as good overall as what Ward has done so far as Eubank is a better SMW than unwell Kessler and Reid is better than the others Ward has beaten.

Now as for Kessler - Steiglitz, good fight where both deserve praise and credit

3Million. Wow. Thats the biggest purse he ever got for sure. Andrade fight he was the underdog I think. He dosen't have any other notable fights I know of. So he should be happy with 3 Million. But, Kessler will destroy him.

Stieglitz was ill in the Andrade fight. His promotor (Steinforth) begged him to cancel the fight, but Stieglitz wanted to fight. Stieglitz says that he was the superiour boxer, but that he had no strenght left by round 8.

If you havent seen anything else with Stieglitz, I highly recommend you to watch the Balszay scrap. If it had been a fight between 2 yanks I'm sure it would have been a FOTY candidate.

The same thing happened to Bute with his 1st fight vs Andrade but it's have been called bull**** by all the Bute haters. He dominated each and every round of the fight and he had no strenght left by round 12... ''Bute has lacks stamina, he's a glass-jawed fraud, etc'' It's OK for Stieglitz but it's a lie for Bute??

Let them think what they want...you know, I know and a bunch of us know that Lucian can take a solid punch, à la Berrio. And, apart from the 12th vs Andrade I, he never had a stamina problem. I would say the opposite, as more rounds go, he gets more active and he always finishes strong. But keep that to yourself!

Can't believe Stieglitz gets more than Kessler, he's a more or less a bum.

Kessler was made mandatory to Stieglitz by the WBO. Being a former champ he is entitled to at least 40% of the purse in a purse bid, so I believe the money is probably being split in half between the fighters or at least close to it. In no way that info is accurate.
