By comparison, Canelo and GGGs "guarantees" for their first fight were $5 million and $3 million. And then they sold about 900,000 PPVs at around $75 a pop.

So they made A TON more than $5 million and $3 million.

See how that works ... children?

They say there's one born every minute.

Only a fool would pay that much for this PPV event, with all it's mismatches.

From memory I'm pretty sure Hurd only got 500k to fight Lara, so he is definitely rising on the PBC pay scale!

I swear PBC has to have some sort of pre-determined pay scale. I’ve never seen so many 1 million dollars even paydays from a promo company my life.

I wonder why he didn't turn pro a few years earlier?

What's to argue? He said he'd beat Ortiz and he probably would. Then you argue that a prize fighter went and earned more money elsewhere than take your proposed match-up for him?
It's the people who think Ortiz has some relevance and cache because he rocked Wilder who are biased. Just because Ortiz gave Wilder a bit of a wobble, doesn't mean the rest of the HW division have to see if they can also survive the King Kong! He brings f all to the table and is an irrelevance outside of Wilder bum-boy fantasy land.

Listen to yourself: You are critisizing prize fighters for fighting for a bigger prize! That's how far the Wilder-Ortiz-WBC agenda has gone.
But but but $50Mil, but but but he said he'd beat him, but but but

But their fight was sold out 6 weeks out from the fight and Canelo was a proven PPV draw already.

Ortiz is a better boxer than Whyte is, not sure why you are so upset. It's HW, nobody other than Joshua is very proven and certainly Ortiz and Whyte are on the same tier right now. 10 months ago? Ortiz def rated higher in everyones eyes, even Dillian's mother. Most who scored had Parker beating Whyte anyway, even with the BS KD. So I could go on a long tangent trying to make you look stupid easily too. I do agree with your first statements, I will say, in regards to a fighter earning more money being anything but ducking the "other guy."

Maybe (obviously, in my opinion) Deontay, Fury, and their teams overestimated what the fight would generate.

As I have said before, Ortiz is an irrelevance outside of Wilder bum-boy fantasy land.
No he is not better than Whyte, your eye test counts for sh1t, sorry like.
The rankings all have Whyte well above Ortiz. He has earned far more money for putting on more competitive fights against better opponents and he has the far greater resume.

You are embarrassing yourself. No-one is sucking off Ortiz less Wilder apologists. Any sensible boxing fan worth his salt reviewing Ortiz's pro career to date, will struggle to see why people were rating him so highly.
You say 'Ortiz is a better boxer than Whyte' but there is no tangible evidence to back it up other than saying 'Whyte didn't perform perfectly in his high profile fights against the top opposition' which is an argument only the trolliest of losers on ESB ever use.

He didn't take up boxing til 22 and unlike Joshua it took him years before he was competing at an international level. When he fought Hrgovic in the WSB in 2013 despite being 7 years older he was an unknown at international level while a 21 year old Hrgovic was an experienced and well known operator at international level.

Joyce was definitely a late bloomer. He didn't really have much amateur success on an international level until the last few years. There probably wasn't much interest in him turning pro before Rio and it made more sense to stay amateur where he was likely being funded and so receiving a salary and all the other benefits of being a top UK amateur.

Ortiz is so good he needs a rematch clause to fight Travis Kaufman lol. Doesn't say much for Ortiz's team confidence if they need that level of security in case he loses.

Dude, so glad someone can see the sense on here. Kaufman ffs. Just impossible to talk sense into some on here. Ortiz most likely will finish his pro career with his 'marque' win being Bryant Jennings yet some on here speak of him as if he's ATG HW top 25. Such a joke....

I really hope people stop trying to convince the world that the big fish at HW are 'ducking' Ortiz when he's a $200k undercard fighter with absolutely no notable wins outside of Allen and Jennings.
