I reckon Johnson was in his absolute peak against Jones Jr.

There's an argument Jones was no longer prime in this match up however.

So if you take a prime Jones, say any time from 1996 to 2000, and place him against the Johnson who knocked him out, would the fight be a different story?

Would Johnson be able to handle the speed of Jones?

Would Jones be able to handle the pressure Johnson?

Would Johnson be able to roll with the left hook?

Would Jones be able to avoid the overhand right?

Would history repeat itself or would we see something completely different?

I think Johnson always has the style to cause any Roy Jones problems, Roy Jones struggles with pressure fighters, and Jones wasn’t that much past his prime when he fought Johnson I think Jones may win on points, but he would have a load of problems.

I think a prime Roy Jones Jr. would outclass a 2004 Glen Johnson.

Truth is, Jones fell off really sharply in 2003-'04.
It was likely moving to heavyweight and back down turned him from "a young 34" to "an old 35".
His last 175 fight before the Ruiz one was the Clinton Woods fight (2002), where he completely dominated. Even that version of Jones Jr, would likely have outlclassed G.Johnson too.

Def think a prime Jones takes it. Roy was never the same after moving down from HW

I think Jones could of probably beaten Johnson at the time. He underestimated him and never got in the fight. That's what Andre Ward thinks anyway

    Everyone underestimated Johnson.

Even leading up to the knockout the commentators are acting like Jones can step into 2nd gear any time he wants and dominate.

Jones had lost his stamina and relexes. If you watch the Tarver fight you can see his mouth open and him breathing hard quite early in the fight. But according to Ward, Jones seemed to think Johnson was a tune up.

Jones clowns him. Anyone whose ever been an athlete knows that your body will fail you. I used to be very **** strong in my 20's. At 41, I still LOOK to be in good shape but don't have it anymore.

Roy's body had been extended so much by the time he fought Tarver, it could keep up with what he wanted to do.

    Come on now.

    Be real.

Roy was embarrassed by the Tarver knockout. It was humiliating. So he jumped straight back into camp as soon as possible in order to try and get some pride back to eradicate the loss. He literally jumped at the first opportunity to get back into the ring. It was only 3 months after the Tarver fight.

I love Glen. He was a warrior who would fight anybody. But he knew that Roy was damaged goods. He attacked and pressured Roy knowing that he was very vulnerable, and Roy didn’t even resemble the fighter we’d seen in the previous 15 years.

Roy looked completely lost. He was clearly nowhere near 100% either mentally or physically, and the shot that put him out was nowhere near as hard as other shots that he’d previously taken. There was something very wrong. You can credit Glen for turning up the heat, but that wasn’t Roy in there. He was out for a long time and the doctor said that he was dehydrated. Also, there were various claims that Roy hardly trained for the fight and that he just went through the motions.

You saying that there’s an argument that Roy wasn’t in his prime is absolutely laughable.

    There is no argument.

The version of Roy who Glen fought didn’t even resemble a prime version of Roy.

Roy’s old advisor, Stanley Levin watched the fight, and he said:

“Fifty per cent of the old Roy would have beaten Glen Johnson”

The version of Roy who Glen fought had diminished reflexes and punch resistance, and was obviously scarred from the Tarver knockout.

Prime for prime, it would have been a routine U/D for Roy.

It can’t be seen any other way.

Glen would literally have been lucky to have taken a few rounds off of Roy.

Glen went 1-1-1 with Clinton Woods around the same time.

Agreed. lufc seems to dislike Roy, for sme reason.

Speaking of Woods, that might have been Roy's last fight at his best. He looked so sharp against Woods.

You really think Glen Johnson beats up and stops prime Roy Jones Jr.?
