If the Gerry Cooney of the Holmes fight had been a top contender say in 1956 would he of been champion and could he of been a champion that history would of viewed favourably . Would he of been undefeated champ until liston came along.

I don't know. Cooney v Archie Moore and Cooney v Floyd Patterson would be very interesting fights.

I think he is about 50/50 to defeat Patterson, and 60/40 to defeat Ingo.

i know i am going against the classic forum view here but i would strongly fancy cooney if not drinking heavily and using to be the favourite against both of these fighters

The trouble with Cooney is he's not the type to rebound from a loss well. Some guys can dig deep and move on and try improving and some cannot.

I think he has major troubles footwork wise with the abundance of boxer types around at the time. They are not going to stand in front of him and let him wing away. They will use their legs and Cooney will have to work trying to break guys down. I think his poor defense see's him getting hit and dropping decisions.

Him and Cleveland Williams might be interesting to see who wilts first.
