It's no secret that UFC is the premier organization. But still there are other rival promotions who have their own champions as well. Now what i'd like to point out is, the sport is still MMA, not UFC. For example, Jon Jones is the youngest champion in UFC history. Big achievement yes. But if some 19-yr old kid wins a title in Dream, that makes him the youngest champion in MMA right? I'm not demeaning the achievements in the UFC, but it seems like the UFC records are the MMA records in itself. That's how I perceive it when listening to the broadcast.
It's not about the fights, as I have mentioned UFC is the premier organization. But the sport is still MMA right? By the way, there are bigger fights that can be made but it involves a ufc fighter and someone outside Zuffa.
2012, just the way things turned out. I don't think the commentators are secretly brainwashing folks when the roster is so deep to begin with.
Well, they could've just set the record straight with some facts they have. Jon Jones may actually be the youngest MMA champ in history, organization nonwithstanding.
MMA certainly exists beyond UFC, but it's the premier division in any sport who's records are most respected. The remainder are like second grade and not directly comparable.
I was about to say Bigfoot against Dos Santos, but he seems like headed to UFC as well. Oh well, it's beside the point anyway.
To put things into perspective The UFC is major league. I couldn't tell you who Fedor and Hector Lombard's last few opponents opponents were, Bellator has a card in a few weeks that you can be sure UFC matchmaking will be watching.
There might be better fighers that never get praised simply because they dont go into the UFC, there also might be **** fighters who gets praised as the baddest man in the world simply because they are in the UFC. Look at the Strikeforce fighters, they were nowhere near the top when they were in Strikeforce, but they go to the top of the heap as soon as they beat even a CAN UFC fighter.
UFC is the premier league in MMA. They always say the whole record but inthe broadcast they say the UFC record so you know how they have performed on the highest level.
Now UFC is the best. But before Pride was the best. WEC had the best in the bantamweight devision. Strikeforce had better H/W fighters than the UFC. But they all got bought by the UFC. In 2 years there will be an organization like dream that challenge the UFC and they will be bought, this is done to protect the UFC brand. This management style always gives the fans the illusion that the UFC is always the best organization when it's not always true.
The UFC always beat other orgs in marketing. Every example in the sports history has shown that the UFC wasn't where ALL the talent was. Now that they have bought everyone up they are the best but Overeem, Diaz, Shogun, Henderson amongst many others blew away the theory that the UFC was the place for elite talent.
