First, let me say that I am not surprised in the least at the results of last night's fight. As I have said before, I thought Sergio's speed and power might actually surprise Kelly. And I never thought he would be such an easy target for Kelly. So what does it mean?

Let's put this into proper perspective. Kelly Pavlik is an extremely limited fighter, which can't be denied. He definitely has problems with movement and handspeed, especeially if a guy is willing to commit to movement and patience, and has the stamina to do so. What we must understand, is that Kelly didn't lose to a chump. Martinez is better than a solid B+ fighter. And even at his age, Hopkins has never lost the qualities that make him lethal to a fighter like Pavlik.

So give him credit. He is one tough dude who leaves it all in the ring. And his limited style has brought him success enjoyed by very few fighters. He has only lost two fights, which is hardly a career-threatening crisis. He will, however, need to adjust if he is going to either reclaim his MW crown or move up to 168. Doubling the jab just isn't going to cut it against the likes of Ward, Dirrell, Froch, Kessler, and Bute. (I still think he beats Abraham) Time will tell how much success he has against the guys at 168. I just don't see the current form of Pavlik being anything more than a solid contender at 168.

As far as his hypetrain, there has been a lot of fuss made over him finally being exposed as an HBO great white hypejob. While his race has undoubtedly played into why some people may like him, many of his fans just like seeing a guy who is tough, resilient, and gutsy, regardless of his lack of technical skill, especially when that fighter is knockin people out. So while I am one of those who constantly makes reference to his fan base, I can recognize the fact that he has fans for more reasons than just his race.

And finally, speaking of his fans... Pavlik truly has a cult-like, loyal, intense fanbase. And his most ardent supporters on this site are no different. Boo "the Lyin King" radley, Hermit (crab), and DBooty are actually three of my favorite posters here. While they (not so much Dbooty) can be a little pushy and downright arrogant about their fighter, they are a lot of fun if you aren't too sensitive about these things, and can always enjoy a good laugh at themselves. So good luck to the Pav-hick crew (for those who are sensitive about that term, they have called me equally offensive names in jest) and hopefully their boy will bounce back and at least regain some of his shine. Because when it's all said and done, I really feel bad for any fighter who seemingly loses it all in one swift ass-whipping. Pav seems to be a decent guy who just needs a few of his technical flaws corrected immediately.

he's been undressed twice by two fighters who were past their prime. there needs to be a long talk with the fella in the mirror. you are right, this doesnt have to be a career threatening thing. he's strong, young...but being soundly beaten like this again can challenge someone mentally.

kelly's style requires 100% confidence. a brawler like kelly cannot step through the ropes questioning whether he can out-tough someone and overcome his own shortcomings by sheer force of will.

but regardless what happens...i'll be pulling for him.

Pavlik is a good fighter. However he's limited. He needs to pick his opposition carefully. Whoever is advising him should be fired. Fighting Hopkins was a bad idea. Fighting Mora would have been ill-advised. Fighting Williams would've been somewhat ill-adivised. Fighting Martinez was probably the dumbest move they could've made. If he goes up to 168 he should stay away from Bute, Ward, and Dirrell. I think he can beat anyone else in that division if he's able to maintain his power at 168. If he can't maintain his power, he's in trouble.

To tell you the truth NBA I actually felt somewhat sorry for the doofball Kelly Pavlik because I was once a fan but in reality he was a fighter who's hype-train was so out of control that this loss may actually do him more good than harm!!! Team Pavlik and his fans needed to be humbled, and this was the best possible way!!!

Hermit deserves this lost more than anyone on ESB

Well it will be hard for him to go on a bum-fest at 168...idk what he will do, but what he SHOULD do is get a new trainer, move up to 168 and prepare himself to fight at the loaded SMW division.

It's hard to explain, but for me, when a guy is on top with his hypetrain in tact, I just want to see him catch a beatdown.

But afterwards, I kinda do feel bad for the guy a little. Pav is no different. I have never been a fan of his, but I can recognize some good qualities in him. And I think he's probably a decent person. Hope he bounces back at least a little bit.

he became more aggressive last night when sergio was moving. that was a mistake. he should have stepped back & used his height, which he did in the middle rounds. he will always have trouble with movers & guys who give him angles; however, he can make some adjustments that will allow him to compete.

his style looks devastating against guys who are aggressive & come forward. styles make fights.

his lack of foot speed will always be a handicap he has to overcome, but if he got better advice than double-jab over & over again, then he might be able to overcome it.

He gonna move up to 168 and be a decent contender...he should start by giving miranda the rematch so he can see how good he is in comparison of when he was going after the title..if he struggles than we know he isn't the same fighter ..if he doesn't and he gets miranda out in the first 6 like he did the first time than he'll show he can still be a contender if not a title holder...as far as being an undisputed champ again......hell nah he not that good

168, decent contender, that's about as good as Pavliks future gets.

 How the **** can you talk about any "hypetrain"??? At least Pavlik was a unified world champion with several good wins on his ledger and several title defences in his back pocket. You embarrassed yourself by making a thread a day hyping Joshua Clottey up to the hills with completely unjustified praise, and daily masturbatory fantasies about how he was going to cream Manny Pacquiao.

You are the least qualified person on this forum to judge any "hypetrain". ****ing imbecile! :rofl
