    Floyd_G.o.a.t voted for Pea.

He also believes, rather bizzarely that 'floored' means a fighter is stunned/out on his feet, as opposed to the conventional (and rather obvious) opinion, that 'floored' means to be knocked down on the canvas. I trust you've seen the 'floored' thread Lancs?

I would take what this guy says with a pinch of salt if I were you :good

 I have seen the "floored thread" yes. One of the highlights of this forum when I logged on the first time to have a good read of the thought provoking material on this forum.

    Floored.

They are both true all time greats. But Leonard is almost mythical he was that good!

Lists are always subjective i know, and although i love listening to Bert Sugar i never trust his lists. He seems to give too much credit to older fighters and not enough to new ones. I realise it's just human nature to view things more fondly in the days when you were young, and Bert is only human, which is why i never really take much notice of his lists. Has for the Ring list, while it does give food for thought, it certainly is'nt the be all and end all!

I rate Whitaker as highly as Leonard in terms of ability... perhaps even higher.

But resume-wise SRL has a clear edge, you cannot argue with wins over Hearns, Hagler, Benitez and Duran.

SRL has to be higher in ATG terms, no matter which way you look at this, and that's coming from someone who is more a Pea fan than a Ray fan.

In terms of sheer ability I can't really separate them either Popkins, I sometimes side towards Pea in that sphere. Yeah we all seem to have a consensus that Leonard has clearly the better resume.

And finally two closing questions as this thread heads towards the abyss that is General Forum irrelevance.

Without leaving the divisions he won titles in, would it have been possible for Pea to find himself above Leonard in terms of resume (was the necessary talent there)?

How much should the injury-forced break that Leonard had to take in his best years hurt his legacy as a fighter?

Leonard, just because of offense, offense, Offense. Excitement has to count for something if youre into sports entertainment and you have to give a huge nod to SRL for that.

Prime Benitez, Duran, Hearns, Hagler...as compared to JCC.

Pea has been boooed a whole bunch of times as well.

Pea himself had an incredible offence, he just lacked the same kind of punching power that Leonard did.

Though I don't consider "entertainment" a key component of my own criteria on judging where fighters rank. Although it does help. :good

Not as close as the Ring Magazine but a lot closer than Bert Sugar.

The Ring Magazine did indeed have them neck and neck, while Sugar had them so far apart. Was just gauging opinion, and indeed to see if anyone would actually have Pete over Leonard.
