    Folks,

I just reviewed my fight tape of J.C.Chavez' title shot against Kostya Tszyu from 2000. Okay, yes, Chavez at age 38 looked well fit at 140 pounds, but his speed and timing was off due to his age.
    :bbb
Point is, did Chavez really deserve this title shot and payday, or was it political, etc.???
    :huh

    Note:

It was a bit of a sad sight to see Chavez getting pushed and punched around by Kostya Tszyu in 2000 on Showtime... Age is a bad thing in boxing.... Especially after age 35......

Not like KT ducked anybody to take JCC instead, so I ain't have a problem with the fight.

But JCC hardly had a mandate to get a shot. He just got it cuz of his name and his ties with the WBC, who always kept him in line to fight for their belts.

No, he didn't deserve that shot. But how many former champs have gotten title shots because of their name? It is what it is. Furthermore, he isn't the only past-his-prime former champ to get his ass handed to him by a younger lion.

Oh, and I find it funny that they interviewed Zab Judah after KT vs JCC, and Judah was saying how much of a disgrace it was for JCC to get a shot. I think he fought KT next and that's when he became famous for doing the chicken dance. Afterwards, what he did was in fact a disgrace!! LOL!!

Don't know but it was a fight I wish didn't happen. Wouldn't mind seeing prime Chavez vs Prime Kosta.

it was a garbage fight for sure. Chavez having been beaten by Willie Wise previously tells us that this fight was a farce. i dont think chavez won a round and didnt really need to take that kind of beating at that age

Yes, but Julio was heavy and not in top shape for Wise in '99... Julio had his pants down for Will Wise of '99....:bbb

I'm not sure if this is true - I know KT was taking the **** out of Judah after the fight, but I read this the other day.

I'm a huge Chavez fan and as far as "in shape" is concerned for the Tszyu fight, Chavez looked gaunt and old at the weighin. I remember the weighin pictures vividly from the spanish newspaper I read the morning of the fight. Chavez who had been fighting out of shape for several fights leading to the Tszyu fight, not suprisingly struggled to make weight, and it showed during the fight itself.
Chavez shot his load the first 2 or 3 rounds, and he looked a spent fighter.

This was impressive. Not that he got knocked out, but that he never got knocked out before. And his first knock down came in the Frakie Randall fight. Also, I dont remember ever seeing Julio get wobbled or on spaghetti legs.

    Truly impressive.
