Q: Did Hagler use roids as a champ at 160 from 1980 to 1987?

hagler shaved his head, didn't he? at least that's what he used to say...

as for the steroids... when you're 5'10" and you're trying to make 160, and you're known for being dedicated to your training, his physique seems inevitable. how else could he have looked? it's a bit different if you're adding 20+ pounds to your frame in a limited period of time, and then looking more ripped than ever before! but this all assumes that boxing is generally a clean sport, so...

No way. Americans can't not be grotesquely obese without steroids. Fact. See: Heavyweight division...then the lack underneath that. It's impossible. Clearly. If Arreola were on PEDs, he'd look like Wladimir. Briggs, he uses PEDs. One of the Mayweathers told me. Then they explained that they are personally the exception to the rule, which I believed.

We might not find out 100%, ever.

Take your pick. Haglar, Hearns, Leonard. Methinks yes, yes, yes. Without a doubt.

    Then add a thousand others.

    It's rampant.

Having spent a great deal of time at Goody Petronelli`s over the years I can share this. No one trained like Hagler, he was an animal who fought in amateurs at 156, then turned pro at 160. He and Goody would out themselves in jail for the whole training camp. Haglers body looked the same throughout his whole career. He still looks like he could give the top ten middles a night of hell.Hagler would walk into the hym, no bachslapping or shaking hands, and just WORK the whole time there. One of Goody`d biggest dissapointments is that the fighters today aren`t commited to train like Hagler. Hagler did it the old fashion way, trained hard AND cleaned out the division...

MRBILL, no disrespect, but you must have a sh!t physique yourself if you think Hagler looks "unnaturally solid". some guys have low body fat, especially black guys.

I tend to think Hagler was clean. The guy trained like an animal. He had a Marciano type mentality when it came to training which accounted for his ripped to shreds physique. He wasn't huge in street clothes and he was overall a rather small guy. It's just that what he had was lean and muscular which I feel was due to genetics and intense training. look at the physiques on many of the old time fighters. They were specimens and this was long before modern supplements and steroids came to be. There's a lot to be said for good diet and hard training and Hagler was just a good example of both.

Some guys are blessed with a hard-looking physique. There are many examples of fighters who train like maniacs and don't end up looking like that, and there are also examples of fighters (or non-fighters) who use steroids and don't look like Hagler.

There is too much misunderstanding and misconception surrounding steroids and what the effects are...

I have a buddy who doesn't train, but works out sometimes, definitely doesn't use steroids, and is at least as ripped as Hagler...

I have had phases where I trained like crazy andwatched my diet and still I never even approached the ripped look.

I don't like individuals getting called out because the way the current 'roid witch hunt operates. I give 'em the benefit of the doubt.

That said...we'll never know whose been on them over the past 45 years and we're likely never going to find out in many cases, especially pre-1990's. It's naive to think that none of the best guys before that didn't at least experiment with them, especially when one considers that the way they're demonized now is far from the way they were viewed before from a sporting and social standpoint. And if fighters can still be apt to take them even with the current witch-hunt like backlash, it's foolish to think that none of the top guys would've back when the attitude was much more lax about them.

We'll just never know who did and who didn't. I'd like to think we're a cleaner sport than the Olympics, track and field, and football has been over the past 50 years, but I have no actual proof to make that claim besides wishful thinking.

I don't think he did, maybe a small % chance, and I fear for the person's life that accuses him of it face-to-face.

It's a well known fact that Hagler injected a mix of cocaine and wine into his balls before every big fight to enhance his performance.
