Ah so THAT explains it! :rofl It seemed a little strange for an obviously Asian fellow to be named "Jack Brubaker"... atsch That was Ibrahim Balla vs. Anuntachai Sor Por Lor Krungthep, 4 rounds @ featherweight.
Round 1 Brubaker is pecking in with double jabs, turning himself side-view to Balla and then darting back out. Balla looks to bowl in some body shots or tag down with a right hand, eager to give Brubaker his receipt. Neither is connecting much cleanly yet, both getting a feel on range and the opponent's speed. Balla steps in, lets Brubaker takes a few swats at his stomach and jumps outside to make them just brush. Balla leaps in and hooks into Brubaker's neck shoving him into a turnbuckle. 10-9 Brubaker, close
What a mess. :-( I only woke up this early to see Amonsot! Little did I know he would be first on the broadcast, and end it so damn quickly that I also missed Horn...
Round 2 Brubaker is doubling and tripling the jab moving forward as Balla hops to and fro. Wild body exchanges as they clasp up. Crazy uppercuts from Balla. The ref splits them as the punches become lessened by their constant tangling. Balla is now jabbing his way in. Solid uppercut to the diaphragm by Balla. Clinch. Double flash jab by Brubaker gliding in, hitting first air, then glove. Balla is bouncing on his toes, rapidly moving around Brubaker and zooming in with jabs. 10-9 Balla 19-19
Round 3 Brubaker is stymied as Balla dances to his left and right and then abruptly comes at him with a jab. All Brubaker can think of is to put the goalposts up and wait. Lots of nervous energy from Balla, perhaps Brubaker is hoping for him to expend too much. BIG overhand right loaded up and half-thrown by Balla, but somehow he pulls it at the last second - only a feint. Smart move but Brubaker didn't fall for it. Balla shrugs off having failed to draw the lead and resumes bouncing. 1-2 by Brubaker coming off the ropes misses as Balla does a matador turn. Messy clinch as Brubaker barges into Balla on the ropes. Brubaker can't land his right hand, telegraphing it with too much arc from behind the back. Balla is too mercurial and fluid in his movements, tapping Brubaker on the body just enough to score his points. 10-9 Balla 29-28 Balla
Czar Amonsot will be the #1 contender for either Balla (currently #5) or Brubaker (currently #6) in their first defense of the Australian light welterweight title. :bbb ...how do the #5 and #6 guys wind up competing for it, anyway? :huh
Round 4 Brubaker is floating around popping jabs into Brubaker's face. Brubaker is missing the right hand thrown in earnest. Balla is clubbed to his knees as they slam together in another high-speed crash 'n' clinch. Brubaker has picked up the intensity and is threshing with both arms, catching Balla on the sides of the head as he rolls. BIG slapping right on the temple by Brubaker, making Balla ease off after having shouldered Brubaker into a corner. Clinch. Brubaker backpedals and slips a jab with his upper body tilted. 10-9 Brubaker 38-38
Round 5 Brubaker is showing the right hand up high but instead curving it down into Balla's side as they press together. Balla is taking short rapid baby steps, changing directions every few, leaning far over to either side. HUGE body flurry by Brubaker, first hooking and then shoeshining. Head shots as Balla leans over and exposes himself. Balla fights off the ropes. Big leaping left hook to the ear by Balla. Brubaker lands a jab and loops a right hand into the side of Balla's head, anticipating his duck. Up-jab from a forward-leaning crouch by Balla, but he gets clubbed away by a right hand. Both men scoring frequently. Jab by Brubaker. Jab and overhand right by Brubaker as Balla ducks and moves. Clinch by Balla. 10-9 Brubaker 48-47 Brubaker
Round 6 Brubaker is throwing big hooks coming forward. Balla retreats with his jab poking overhead. Counter right by Balla on the back foot. Brubaker is mixing the right hand to head and body coming forward, feeling out distance with his jab. Brubaker jabs into the guard and then drills a right to the body. Balla clinches. Brubaker misses a right and gets snatched into another clinch. Balla is very clingy. The ref is keeping busy. Brubaker blocks a short overhand right and leans in. Balla twists his arms. Brubaker clubs him with a right and backs up. Left hook lands in the clinch for Brubaker. 10-9 Brubaker 58-56 Brubaker
Round 7 Brubaker is landing some hard left hooks as Balla tries simply falling in on him with arms spread in a net. Balla is tired, but plugging away on the inside with body taps. Brubaker is hooking the body and clubbing at at Balla's upturned nape. Wild bottle rocket left by Balla misses as they step around each other at slanted angles. 10-9 Brubaker 68-65 Brubaker
Round 8 Brubaker is hitting the body with both hands, leaning in and digging hard. Balla is jabbing up at Brubaker's chin but not reaching it from his crouch (Brubaker is considerably taller). Chaotic exchanges, both men hitting arm or missing. Clinch initiated by Balla. Repeat-action left hooks by Balla, thumping into Brubaker's right forearm. Clinch. Body combo by Brubaker before Balla grabs again. 10-9 Brubaker 78-74 Brubaker
