Glad to hear you're safe and sound, looks like it will be a little while before you can head back home. Hope you and your family are comfortable where you are and the clean up goes smooth sailing for you.

Celtic FC have been in touch with the President of the Brisbane Celtic Supporters Club and have announced they will auction off the players shirts from next weekend's match against Aberdeen for donation to the Qld flood relief.

It's a tremendous gesture from a football club on the other side of the world.

Celtic's message of support to Queensland

By: Newsroom Staff on 14 Jan, 2011 16:55
CELTIC Football Club has today written to the Queensland Premier and the Celtic supporters’ club in Brisbane to express its sincere sympathy following the tragic flooding there.

The club enjoys magnificent support in Australia and was delighted to visit the country in 2009 to play against The Brisbane Roar.

During the visit, the club's management and players met Anna Bligh, the Queensland Premier, and thousands of supporters and members of the public who welcomed the club so warmly.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: "On behalf of everyone connected with Celtic, we would like to extend our sincere sympathies to the people of Australia following the devastating floods which have hit the country.

“In particular the people of Brisbane and its surrounding areas have been severely affected in recent days and our thoughts, of course, go out to everyone there.

“In 2009 the club was delighted to visit Brisbane on a pre-season tour. The welcome we received from everyone in the city was overwhelming and we hope to have a lasting connection with the city.

“The warmth of spirit of the Queensland people was very evident and we know that their spirit and strength will be crucial in pulling everyone there through this extremely difficult time.

"Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with the people of Australia at a very difficult time.”

The shirts worn by Celtic in the next home match against Aberdeen on January 22 will be signed by the players to raise funds for the flood appeal.

Further details to follow regarding the auctioning of the Celtic shirts.
