They fought thrice in 2007 in the amateurs. In each meeting Graves did better than in his previous attempt, inching his way ever closer to getting the best of the eventual bronze medalist & future WBC heavyweight champ. The first time Wilder outpointed him by double (20-10), with that margin of victory dipping to 11-7 in the rematch. By their last encounter Wilder only squeaked by 12-9! Had they fought another time or two it could've been enough for Graves to narrow that gap enough to get the W!

Certainly there hasn't been a whisper from Wilder's direction about settling their score professionally. Small wonder. Graves turned pro in the same year as Wilder and is himself undefeated. There is no blueprint to beat him in the paid ranks (but two men thus far have drawn with him, so there is a blueprint for that).

    Undeniable facts about Quantis Graves:

    1. Has never been dropped in the pros - certainly not by a Dustin Nichols!
    2. Has two more nicknames than Wilder. Along with "The Grim Reaper" he also goes by "Grave Digger" and "Hot-Hands". All three of these >>>> Bronze Bomber.
    3. No video exists of his trilogy with Deontay Wilder (probably suppressed by the Bomb Squad! There is precedent for star athletes - including boxers - doing this in cases where footage doesn't flatter them. See: the ugly incident wherein LeBron James got posterized by a high school kid and ended up threatening violence against the camera operator :yikes), but the scores reflect unambiguously that he came nearer and nearer to defeating him whenever they fought. They never had a fourth match before Wilder's run in Beijing likely because his team knew that by then Graves had Deontay's # and had made all the necessary adjustments to finally get his revenge!
    4. Graves was good enough to be an Olympic alternate even with Deontay Wilder ducking the fourth meeting that probably would have seen Graves make the main squad. :-(
    5. Graves has conducted his entire pro career since debuting in 2008 at Cruiser, foregoing the lure of big money up at HW to prove himself in a division with loads more talent & depth...boiling his powerful 6'2" frame and risking suffering the deleterious effects of weight drain to challenge himself against significantly faster competitors than Wilder has ever shared a ring with.
    6. Graves has trained with Ronnie Shields - the same man that coached Artur Szpilka in a challenge of Wilder in which the Pole won six of the first eight rounds before succumbing to a KO.
    7. Wilder has never once mentioned Graves in an interview or mentioned giving him a title shot. CLEAR DUCK!
    8. Graves can switch hit, meaning he can turn southpaw - like Szpilka. Wilder has struggled badly with the only prime lefty he fought in the pros (Audley Harrison was shot to bits) ...and he was KTFO by one named Sergey Rozhnov in the amateurs.

Behold...the man that would be king (if given a chance to commit regicide by the corrupt powers that be...though you can bet your bottom dollar even if he moved up to HW and started knocking suckers out left and right the WBC and Haymon would find a way to never let him near that #1 contender spot...)
