Moorer, the converted southpaw against the courageous Jerry Quarry? Quarry has time jumped from the Patterson win to face MM of the Bert Cooper War. 12 rounds for the WBO strap, who takes it?
Quarry decks him en route to a close decision....or maybe even stops him on a tko after a kd or two. I fully expect the Revisionista to diminish Quarry's power and bump up Moorer's chin a notch or two, making that their story here.
A prime Jerry Quarry, 1968 edition was one fighter that Yank Durham avoided, another one was Karl Mildenberger, because of his showing against Muhammad Ali, in Sept 1966, won by Ali, TKO12. Quarry is a very good counter puncher, with a fair amount of power. Quarry gave Champion Joe Frazier a good fight, before Joe stopped him by TKO7, on June 23 1969, in New York. Michael Moorer earned his WBA World Heavyweight title, by defeating Evander Holyfield by majority decision, on April 22 1994, in Las Vegas. Moorer, is a crafty southpaw, with good power, and counters well. Jerry would have to make adjustments due to the stinging right jabs of Michael, which reddens Quarry's face. Jerry took Smokin Joe's best early in their fight, even backing Frazier up. But against Moorer, he counters to the body every time Michael misses. Jerry cut, and bleeding, rallies for a 12th round knockdown over the very exhausted Michael Moorer, to capture a close but unanimous decision.Michael suffers a huge swelling under the left eye. Jerry Quarry finally wins his belt, he says the fight reminded him of his title losing effort against Jimmy Ellis, on April 27 1968, in Qakland, California, losing a majority verdict for the WBA Title, for Ali's vacant title, due to Muhammad's conviction of Draft Evasion.
Can see Moorer beating him on point s to be honest. I don't think MM s league s above Quarry but enough to see him through. But Moorer and Quarry may find themselves on the floor at some point.
accuracy of Moorer wins the rounds and scores the points. Quarry is going to eat a bunch of punches from this guy.
