Even Yank Durham had his own reservations of Joe Frazier fighting Jerry, as far back as 1967, he said, Jerry Is a Very Tough Fighter, And Another Tough Fight For Joe, Would be Mildenberger. That was before Frazier was pulled from the WBA Tournament, after Muhammad Ali, was convicted of Draft Evasion, in 1967, and stripped of his title.
It always bothered me, in the 70s with Quarry's "Great White Dope" tag. He wasn't an ATG, but he wasn't far...I mean, hey, if Ken Norton makes my top 20 ATGs, Quarry shouldn't be ridiculously far behind.
Good thing Eddie Futch was actually making decisions behind the scenes. Joe didnt even know that till after he retired.
I was watching Quarry/ Patterson 1. Though Jerry was a bit green Floyd was lucky to get out of that second round. It's amazing it went the distance.
Jerry by close decision. If Michael had some power, I would chose him, but he truly didn't, so he faded after a quick start, and Jerry takes over in the mid rounds to take command of the fight.

Why do you keep peddling this silly story. Its absolutely untrue. Frazier kicked the **** out of Quarry in a sparring session at the Main St gym in 1966, he knocked Quarry's teeth through his lip and Quarry's handlers pulled him out of the sparring session. Ive asked you before and Ill ask you again why you keep saying Frazier was afraid of Mildenberger?
I can see it going either way.. Quarry had better wins against more top guys. And the best man Dokes ever beat was Mike Weaver and that was due to an early stoppage which spurred controversy for decades. On the flip side Dokes had very fast hands and good boxing ability. He wasn’t the type of come forward fighter which Quarry often liked to counter off of. In fact the reincarnated Dokes of the late eighties who abandoned some of his boxing prowess to be more of a slugger would be a more beatable opponent for Quarry. Conclusion: Early 80’s Dokes beats Quarry in points Late 80’s Dokes loses to Quarry on points or stoppage.
Yank Durham & Eddie Futch dd not want Frazier tangeling with Quarry in 1967, I'll tell you what they were scared of $$$MONEY, afraid of not making any . they timed it just perfect fight of the year 1969
This. Futch certainly knew how to the get the most ($) out of a fighter with the least amount of risk.
Futch was even able to get Duane Bobick the big money fights, Bobick made nothing with Denver buisnessman Bill Daniels. and was 25-0 fighting setups. only thing is ALI-Bobick would have made three times the denaro's then big $$ National TV Norton-Bobick ambush, course i'm getting off the thread here.
