This bout would be interesting I think. Quarry. A counter punching, good Boxing Heavyweight with power, who could take it and wouldnt quit. C o o ney. A big Left hooking phenom whos rise was rivaled only by his fall. Due to his extremely fragile Psyche. This Man was not meant to be a Fighter. Ill take Quarry in this one. Tough enough to handle any onslaught by C o o ney. Good enough to finish C o o ney when he gasses and quits.

I like ****ey in the fight. Sure, Quarry is overall the more accomplished, but I don't see Gerry losing to a cruiser-sized guy. His height and reach would provide great leverage for lowering the boom on the five-inch shorter Quarry.

Tough call. Quarry fought more top HWs than ****ey, but Quarry got beat pretty badly in most of those fights... Chuvalo, Frazier x2, Ali x2, and Norton...all KO losses. He did beat a pre-peaked Young by decision and he stopped Ernie Shaver inside of 1 round.

****ey stopped John Dino Denis KO3, Leroy Boone KO6, Jimmy Young KO4, Ron Lyle KO1, Ken Norton KO1,and Eddie Gregg KO1 among others. He was stopped in the 13th round by HW Champ Larry Holmes but had his moments.

****ey is about 6-7" taller and he has a much longer reach. He outweighs Quarry by about 15-20 Lbs.

I think Quarry would sense weakness in C00ney. He would be more aggressive than usual and I think he could weather the bombs of C00ney.

Quarry would have given Holmes a better fight peak for peak. ( styles ) great fight but I believe Quarry will take him out after the 10th round.

Quarry was the smarter fighter and had better mental fortitude. But he'd have to last into the latter rounds for them to become a factor. Gerry C. would have a significant advantage in height, weight, reach and power and Quarry was both cut and knockdown prone. Not sure that Jerry could outbox Gerry for an entire evening the way that Holmes did ( who incidentally had some rough moments ) and not sustain some damage.. Tough call but I'm leaning towards a C00ney stoppage win.

I would not consider JQ "knockdown prone".

Yes, yes, I know he was down against Chuvalo and others, but when he was prime, JQ had a strong chin.

I think the earlier post on this thread suggesting that JQ would sense "weakness" in GC is right on the money.

    JQ bags GC late.

Well he's been down a few times and by lesser hitters than C00ney.

The Chuvalo fight came when Jerry was in his mid twenties and already had forty pro bouts behind him.. He was prime..

And I agree that this "could" happen. But as I mentioned, he'd have to survive into the later rounds and likely get nailed with some very hard shots to the body and head before C00ney's weaknesses would come into play.. Christ, Holmes fought him for 13 rounds and even lost a few rounds along the way before breaking Gerry down.. And mind you this was after C00ney had only seen 54 seconds of ring action within a near two year period.

It could very well play out that way, but I would argue that the styles favor Quarry. Whilst he gets overrated at times he did do good against sluggers. A big, strong and hard-hitting fighter with limited experience sounds like just the kind of guy that he would do well against. Then again its hard to know just how good Gerry was (or wasn't), but based on the styles I'll go with Quarry.

Fair enough. The key for Quarry here is that he'd have to be able to counter C00ney. His ability to do so would depend greatly on how C00ney went about fighting him. Sometimes Gerry charged right out of the gate as he did against Norton while other times he opted to box and use his jab, reach and even a little footwork. He actually looked good briefly for a bit against Foreman in 1990 boxing. If he chooses to do the latter, then he won't be constantly walking into Quarry counters, as his reach would keep him out of harm's way.

C00ney was in a way like Tyson. He built his resume with a steady diet of over the Hill contenders. Norton was 38 years old and came out of retirement to fight him. Jimmy Young? After he was jobbed against Norton, lost his taste for fighting. Losing 4 of his next 7, before fighting C00ney. Ron Lyle? Ron Lyle was a trial Horse by the time he met C00ney. Not near the Man of the slugfest with Foreman. Which brings me to this point. C00neys resume isnt even close to Quarrys. The name Fighters C00ney fought weren't close to being in the same class as Quarry's, and all past it. Which leads to styles and Mental toughness. Quarry was a tough Counter Puncher who could Punch, take a Punch, and was a good finisher once he had his Man going. His record against ATGs was 1 5 and 1. Nothing to brag about, but look who those loses were against: Ali 2x Frazier 2x Norton 1x. 1 Win against Patterson and 1 Draw against Patterson, and he never quit. Not during a bout or after a loss. C00ney, as I pointed out earlier, was what I call a front runner. A Man who had been convinced of his own infallibility, because he had been fed a steady diet of past Greats. Because of this, once he faced a Man who wouldnt get with the program, he fell apart, and quit. I believe Quarry takes this based on that fact alone.

Wow! What a really, really bad post. Quarry beat a pre-peaked Young............Jimmy Young? I guess I and everyone on earth missed that one except you. Quarry got beat bad by Chuvalo? Killer George could barely see out of his closing eyes when he land his left hook. The Norton loss, lets see, an over the hill Quarry, overweight and coming off a brutal loss the Frazier and **** poor performance against George Johnson, takes on Norton on 2 weeks notice. Plus Gerry would weigh about 15-20 pounds more than a really fat and over weight Quarry.

    Nice ****ysis on your part.:patsch

I struggle to see a way C00ney would win to be honest. Maybe he would overpower Quarry and stop him on cuts, but I don't see it.

Quarry was a more proven & all around better fighter than C00ney.

When the fire was brought to Quarry, he beat a lot of very good fighters & bangers such as Shavers, Foster, Lyle, a good fighter in Spencer, a tall fighter with boxing skills in Mathis, etc. He was also competitive with Floyd Patterson & Joe Frazier, a guy who had a left hook as good as C00ney's ever was.

I know that Quarry took a lot of losses in the duration of his career. but that was because he was consistently fighting tough opposition, even post his prime.

In comparison C00ney took out faded versions of Lyle, Norton & Young. He never beat anybody close to the quality of a prime Quarry.

C00ney has obvious size, weight, and reach advantages. and of course he hit harder than Quarry. But that didn't stop Michael Spinks from whooping his a$s. I know that c00ney was past it and on drugs, but it's just another example of c00ney's inability to take punishment.. See the early Holmes knockdown, Foreman, Spinks, pretty much any time he faced a dangerous fighter he would get hurt & in trouble.

That would be a big factor in this fight because I think Quarry would get lit up, but his chin would see him through. ****ey on the other hand could not take Quarry's best shots and that's how I see the fight playing out. Quarry will march through fire to stop c00ney after c00ney has a good start.

It would be beneficial for C00ney to get his jab going & try to force a cuts stoppage because I don't see him beating prime Quarry. I think Quarry has the power, resilience, and IQ to eventually counter c00ney and get him out of there.

That's pretty much what happened to him vs Spinks. C00ney's chin would fail him here and his defensive liabilities.

c00ney could possibly overpower him, as you say, but I don't think he'd be able to deal with Quarry's artillery, while on the flipside I think Quarry was tough enough to weather the storm.

Quarry, because ****ey fell apart when hit hard.

My exact reasoning. Quarry can take c00ney's best but c00ney can't take Quarry's.
