Wasn't GSP the Canadian athlete of the year last year? Isn't he the biggest sporting star they have right now? How can their athletic commission be so out of touch with their sporting culture?

I think Boxing has their own commission. MMA, unfortunately, fall into it.

This is what happens when you let them Canadian pansy's decide how a fight's gonna go.

The biggest sport stars in Canada are hockey players.

Even very popular combat athletes like GSP and Lucian Bute fall second to hockey.

It all falls under the same commission.

It's called " Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux".

It translate to "Commission of alcohols, races and gambling".

Marc Ratner of Zuffa feels "very Confident" that all will work out fine in Montreal. That's good enough for me.

It's always some suit behind a desk trying to justify his job. ****in tools, they should ban alcohol while they are at it.

I did tell him but he said that Montreal had the quickest sell out in UFC history and the biggest live gate revenue to date. And if Ontario could get on board they would be just as big. Don't hate Canada because of 1 person that is trying to be a hero.

It's because of the "Strikebox" event that went completely to ****.

As Quebec warrior stated, the rules have actually been on the book this way since 1999, but there was a verbal agreement to allow MMA.

Strikebox was going to try to fight under a set of rules that basically amounted to Shootboxing, but with MMA gloves and elbows; basically all standup striking techniques would be allowed, plus throws, and standing submisssions.

At first the commision was going to legalize those rules, then they decided not to, and told the promoter to just have his fighters have a "gentleman's agreement" to fight under those rules while actually being in MMA rules.

The fighters did, except the main event, where James Thompson took his opponent down and beat the **** out of him, the fans basically went nuts and started a riot.

Kind of Ironic that the stupid ****ing commission at first FORCED a promotion to fight under MMA rules, and now won't allow them to.
