Actually most Québecers know at the very least a bit of english, that has to stay that way. The point isn't banning english, that would be plain dumb, the point is that in the territory of Québec, French is the dominant language and it should stay that way. Nobody would expect to go to Japan and live their lives in english, but some do here in Québec.
you should know passable french and living in certain areas is probably unrealistic without fluency in french. but i think it's reasonable to speak english as your primary language in most regions of quebec; but it's ridiculous to go there without any knowledge of french
It's making all the changes that would be difficult. But resource management would be the same as any other country... Sell your resource (we have plenty) and buy those you don't have. We are already doing this anyway... Some people (Jacques Parizeau for example) have already demonstrated how it could be done. No denying its a lot of work and that it does imply some tougher time for the first years...
No. You are an English and French speaking country. You have TWO official languages and around 20 % of the Canada's population speaks ONLY French.
but what would be the advantage? is it the cultural identity and self determination? if so, i understand that very much. is it a similar feeling as the irish within the british empire?
well that's sort of my point. if the country suddenly voted Klingon as an official language, doesn't make us tri-lingual if no one speaks it outside of star trek conventions.
