Frank's a throwback to when ITV showed the main event at 10pm and didn't care about the rest. In truth he's not wrong, the majority of viewing will be for the main event. The sport needs a way to build stars up though, which might have been Grandstand, Sportsnight, etc in the past - even Five - but now big night undercards are the only way.
That doesn't fly in this day and age though. With how expensive PPV is, the situation with touts, the main event possibly being boring, he needs a good undercard. Putting on an undercard like that with 70's songs like "Ring my bell" in-between rounds was as antiquated as it gets. Stop putting Furys on and make some REAL fights.
Interesting to note that in his interview with Seconds Out Warren said that the extension is under the same terms as the previous deal. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t be happy if I was doing the same job but only getting paid the same as I was 4 or 5 years ago with no cost of living raise or anything. By comparison, the new UFC deal sees BT paying almost double the amount of the previous one.
Whyte made himself into a name who could help fill Wembley Stadium by being on good undercards and having good undercards at times. Who, outside of any heavyweights, has made a name for themselves on bt?
Sports Business Journal has confirmed that the new BT Sport UFC deal is for almost double the amount of money of the previous one. With Warren saying that his extension with BT is for the same terms does this say more about the UFC, Warren’s shows or boxing on the whole?
Well considering that Hearn got way more for his deal with DAZN not sure it was down to the current position of the sport. Why would BT pay more for Queensbury shows? It's not like there were other networks fighting desperate for Queensbury. BT had to pay more for ufc as they had competition from DAZN and sky.
Doubt it tbh. Aside from one Khabib (who's now retired anyway) fight, BT have only ever put McGregor on PPV. No big enough stars to put on UK PPV.
They’re running out of time with McGregor too. They’re looking to make him vs Masvidal which would be PPV over here, but another loss or two and he’ll hang up em up.
Nope. Just the value of the content increased. The viewing figures on BT have steadily grown I’ve the last few years and the content is now worth more due to other providers bidding. Queensbury shows meanwhile have declined year on year and there were no other providers interested. Franks plan is to hope in the next 3-4 years that someone like McCann, Sheeraz, Dubois kick on and become household names. the issue is in that 2/3 year period Sky and DAZN are working and promoting with much bigger budgets
