    I remember we discussed this once before, when i first discovered that Old Chocolate was fighting under the name Joe Godfrey. and i know you constantly said that it was not old Chocolate that Fitz fought. But you never did produce anything (as far as i remember) to suggest that it was the middleweight that Fitz fought. Do you have any reports or anything which suggest that it was not Old Chocolate that Fitz beat?

    Old Chocolate was fighting as Joe Godfrey and in the area where fitz was around the time of these fights (from memory i may look up again later) it would seem a long bow to think that it was not him, just on a hunch. Certainly given the ratings of the two fighters these are the two more likely to match up in any case.

    Also, i havent read anything on philadelphia's Joe Godfrey other than what you have written about him. Is there anything else on him (for interests sake only).

    Yeah, I have some stuff somewhere on Joe (Maher ko'd him in 1) and I think I have a fight report on the Fitz fight.
    I did however extensive research on George who beat the likes of Ashton, Lannon and Denver Ed Smith, a really great fighter/boxer. I'll get back to you.

    Thanks, did you read those articles from the Fitz thread where George was actually referred to as Joe Godfrey in an awful lot of news articles. That is correct isnt it? There wasnt a third Joe Godfrey?

    yeah, I was amazed! never thought much of him until today!

    upto Michael Spinks and Tyson now, light at the end of the tunnel, altho the ring didn't give rankings during 2 years in the 90's!

    not worked out the points system, but to keep it fair across all era's i put no more precedence on an alphabet titlist as i do on any other top 10 contender.
