Whats the story with Veit's corner throwing the towel in the 6th round and the ref not accepting it? I have never seen this rule before, could someone explain. Would the same rules apply to the Kessler fight? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFvKSv6p9fo
Basically, in the unified rules of the association of boxing comissions, ONLY the ref can stop the fight... you'll have heard harold lederman say so at the start of a HBO fight what this means is that the corner can show the ref they want it stopped, ie with the towel, but its up to the ref to decide whether it should be stopped when michael katsidis fought graham earl the corner threw in the towel for earl but then the ref threw it out and seconds later earl dropped katsidiis...
The ref doesn't have to stop the fight if a towel is thrown in. After all, ANYONE could throw in a towel, couldn't they?
Yea now that all of you mention it, I do hear Lederman say that before every fight when he goes over the rules. But I've never seen the ref not stop it if the corner throws in the towel.
Its happened quite a few times in the UK, I think some refs think it undermines their authority....I think the BBBofC were the first to bring this rule in?
Thanks for the info. God that girl in your avatar is hot:admin ...didn't you tell me one time that her name is Jada Fire? Is that right? If not, what is her name?
Actually a thrown in towel is not and has never been a automatic stoppage, because, as has been pointed out, anyone can throw a towel in the ring. It is has been enforced more strictly lately, hence the reason a few trainers have felt the need to enter the ring and stop the fight themselves by getting their fighter DQ'd.
Here you are gents , an example of a towel being thrown in and being declined by the ref(correctly as it turns out) . [YT]y17SkkmVQfg[/YT] Of course it has to be Micky 'no naughties with the ed' Vann aswell .
I don't get why everyone was so impressed with Veit 2, it wasn't a bad performance, but it also wasn't a really inspired performance as he clowned a bit. Veit's reach and height presented a few issue's getting in on him, but an inspired Joe would have finished him in 3 or less. The one thing about Veit 2 is that Joe's fantastic defence was indeed on, he gave Veit, who for all his faults is a relatively accurate puncher, hardly any oppurtunities to throw and land.
