I remember in the prefight commentary of Tyson vs. Berbick, the announcers stated something along the lines of as was tradition, Tyson had to pay Berbick a hefty sum of money for wearing the same color trunks as the champ for their fight. Is this still the case in modern day boxing? Does a challenger have to pay a champ if he wears the same color trunks as the champ for a fight? :think

Good question...I think not, since there was no word of Ruslan Provodnikov having to fork over money to Bradley, despite the fact that both wore black trunks in their fight.

:good Thanks. That's what I was thinking, because it happens quite often nowadays, but I never hear about it.

I would love to see some guy come out nowadays with the old-school Everlast black-white, white-black trunks on. They must be available somewhere. That would be cool

Bump. If anybody knows when this stopped being a rule I would love to hear about it.

Was this just some sort of psychological ploy on Berbick’s part by putting the trunk color rule in the contract or was this common back in the day?
