if you watch dempsey willard, you can see tate come into the ring.he was around 6"6. he was a real up and down fighter..looked great in some fights, looked like **** in others. mostly worked as a dempsey sparring partner. years later, (i think 50s or 60s, maybe even 70s?) he was very poor and had lost his home. Dempsey bought him a small farm and farm house.
wow :thumbsup it's always good to see an athletic big fighter like that from the earlier eras, there are so many people who think the past greats who were smaller like Dempsey wouldn't be able to compete with the modern big guys like Lewis and the Klits, and that's BS there were already big guys, and most of them never managed to become champ, and when they did, they got knocked off their throne by smaller ones... at the end of the day, Lewis got knocked out twice by 6'2 fighters, and Wlad once by a 6'1 fighter (Dempsey's height)
I completely agree with you..Good examples are fighters like Michael Spinks ( who gave up 30 ils against Holmes )...And Dempsey Willard is a no brainer..GREAT THREAD THIS IS!!!!
**** people already beat me too it. Big Bill Tate is he. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wxHY3p9DiQ[/ame]
