Hi, so for the first time I sparred yesterday with a friend. We were both boxing orthodox. I have only been doing boxing for a month or so.

It seemed like I had my lead foot opposite his lead foot, or a bit to the left.

Every jab I would through, he would block it with his left hand, and I couldn't land any right's.

Does this mean I was way to square on? Maybe I should turn my hips more so I am angeled more?

Or does it mean I should move my whole stance closer lining up to his back foot?

I have watched stance/footwork videos but found it hard putting it into practice.

i find it hard to know where to line my feet up with his so I can land more jabs/straits

    Thanks

    Thanks. :?

I have... hitting focus pads is different to actually facing an opponent.

You shpuld be supervised while you spar and your coach will be able to help you with this.

I tell all newbies to expect to land less than 10% of the punches they throw. There are a number of factors which contribute to this low percentage - foot positioning won't be the only factor which is restricting your success. As noted above, a good coach and a lot of practice will see you improve.
