It's called pride of your national language combined with patriotism. Even heads of nations from asia who studied in the US of A and are fluent in use interpreters during official functions. They want to show the word that they are rpoud of their language and hope the world will appreciate.

I wish pac use an interpreter during post fight interviews because it makes me proud as a pinoy. However, hope HBO don't employ the same interpreter for pac before. The bold guy because he sucks in translation and gives different thought to what pac said. :D

It's because Marquez is a very smart man...

Also in terms of boxing IQ, Marquez is a genius.. He's like boxing Einstein... WEll he has to be because he was trained by the professor himself Ignacio Beristain..

I think he just elects spanish over english in interviews because he's more comfortable with it and afterall after just being hit in the head you want to speak what you're most comfortable with.

JMM is surprisingly fluent in english though for those of you who don't know. I'd say he's more fluent than someone like Miguel Cotto and most other english speaking fighters who's primary language is spanish. Damn smart guy that Marquez.

aw cmon... why are people suddenly soft here and skirting around something. we all know mexicans have issues about who are, and who are not "true" mexicans.

the mexican boxers are just looking after themselves by speaking in their language. nothing wrong with that, just good business sense.

why speak somebody elses language anyway when you have your own.

Notice that most of the time that Marquez is speaking english is when he's doing an interview for a bit that not live.....if he does'nt come across well, they can always edit it or re-ask the question.....

.....speaking it live to the world is a whole different ballgame.....most fighters dont like to embarrass themselves not knowing how to get their answer across.

A pinoy mentioned that he wish Pac would use a translator.......and though I can understand some of Pac's english, I think he should use a translator....he finds himself repeating himself alot not knowing exactly how to get his thoughts across.....a translator in this sense would help......

Absolutely right. Not to mention he can take his time, formulate his thoughts and then present them without taking too long. It takes a lot of time for ESL kids to translate what they want to say in their head, put it all in the proper order (because you DO have to reshuffle words around) and then present it clearly.

JMM is more comfortable in spanish so as long as he can get away with it, He'll use a translator.

I wouldn't mind seeing him use an interpreter, sometimes he stumbles on his words.

Pac is the one who needs an interpreter.. I can respect the fact that he's trying but it's really difficult to make out what he's trying to say.... Just make it easy for everyone and use an interpreter instead of sayin " ummmm ummmm ummm yea " every other second... Ive seen many mexicans and other fans laughing at that when watching him at the sports bar...

believe me, there was a time when even pinoys made fun of pac's english. now, since they are already used to hearing pac after every fight, they don't mind anymore. :D

The guy tries, so I dont think there's really anything to laugh about......

.....to me its about getting your thoughts across after a big fight, so that we can know in better detail what was going through his mind during the fight......

I can see from Pac's face that he knows exactly what the question is asking of him......but he just cant get his mind to transfer his thoughts in the english format....
.....God bless him for trying though.

.....its really a double edge sword for the fan that does'nt speak the fighters language.....even when there's a translator, most of them are'nt very good, and so what the fighter has to say alot of the times gets lost in translation.
Still I prefer that fighters like Marquez and Pacquiao speak right after a fight in their own language.....at least then their own countryman can savor and share their thoughts and excitement right out of the fighters own mouth.
