I was looking at Overeem's record and it says that he is in the Finals of the final16 in december. Is that true? what about the semi and quarter finals?
Are you looking at his kickboxing record on Wikipedia? If so you're just misunderstanding the way it's written. That doesn't mean he's necessarily in the Finals. It means he's fighting on the "K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 Final" card. He still has to get through the QF and SF rounds. The winner of the tournament will wind up fighting three times in one night (unless there's an injury and an alternate comes in...but that's another story). Spong is his Quarterfinal opponent. The winner of that match goes to the Semifinals and takes on the winner of Ghita and Saki (in the other Semifinal it's the winner of Mo vs. Aerts against the winner of Schilt vs. Kyotaro). The winner of that fight goes on to the Finals against whoever comes out of the other side of the bracket (Mo/Aerts/Schilt/Kyotaro). This all happens on one night.

so when is the Final? They fight every 2 months? Also, if a fighter gets injured do they postpone or is that a forfeit?
Yes, but not being able to watch it live on TV kind of hurts the excitement just a touch. Both are incredible.
I told you. The quarterfinal, semifinal and final are all fought on the same night, in the span of a few hours. If a fighter is injured they have alternates standing by who come in to replace them (they fight in alternate eliminators either on the undercard or at a previous event...often times it's people who were eliminated in the opening rounds of the tournament).

It's done in Britain all the time (the Prizefighter tournaments). I'm pretty sure it's been done in the US, too.
That is correct. The round of 16 is held sometime in October and the final three rounds are fought on the same night some time in December of each year. Yep. It all takes place in Japan and sometimes Korea/Europe. If I'm not mistaken, K1 once held an event in Las Vegas too.
K1 also lends itself to very short fights (combatants are strongly encouraged to go for the KO, and the appearance of doing so is one of the biggest factors in scoring...they might even be compensated more financially for a KO...am I right on that?) Worst case scenario you go to war for twelve minutes in a given match-up (3x3 minute rounds, plus an extension round if it's seen as a draw after the initial three). So the incentive in these Final events is really there to end it early, because you want to be fresh so you can fight two more time later that night. You see a lot more knockouts this way. I like it.
