Let me preface by saying that I think Kenny Bayless is overall a great ref.

But, I thought it was interesting the way he treated this KO.

The way Manny fell, and laid there on the canvas, it was clear he was not going to get up. Yet, Bayless still went over... and checked on him... Manny? Manny? ...finally waving his hands.

    1. He either had an off night and didn't realize the severity of the knockout.

    or

    2. He wanted to make sure Manny really was knocked out before calling the fight... because Manny is a superstar... and he wanted to give him the opportunity to get back up.

If the fighter KO'ed had been a complete nobody, Bayless would've immediately stopped the fight- no questions asked.

What do you guys think? :think

I think everyone, including Bayless, was shocked purely by the fact that it was Manny Pacquiao that was put down like that. It seemed surreal.

Thought the same thing too. It almost seemed like he was trying to wake him up.

He should have either started counting as he hit the canvas or waived it off but not making it seem as if he was trying to wake him up.

At a certain point, I think Bayless was looking at Pacquiao like a friend, more than a referee to a boxer.

He was genuinely scared for his safety.

Bayless is a ref after all and he has to give fighters the benefit of the doubt. It took a couple of seconds to register that Manny got KTFO by the Juan "tsunami replicated" Marquez. I think Bayless was just wondering how anybody can be so stupid to leap into a right like that.

He was caught off guard by the timing of the knock down, as the bell to end the round sounded as he hit the canvas.

Im no amir fan by any reckoning but the garcia stoppage was probs the only bit of the fight after round three where khan was not all over the place. I thought he was gonna lullaby paq into the world of the living! Quite strange yes but no shocker

I think there was some general shock by Bayless, but as the ref you have to send Marquez to the neutral corner, acknowledge the bell at the end of the round, then look at the the official from the ringside who should have started the count.

In this case I think it took Bayless a couple seconds to register that Manny was not getting up. :patsch

Well Bayless has history with both of these fighters I would expect him to do the same for JMM.

if it was cortez ft manny and jaun, probs would of been a boring UD

or a kayo later, cause he just likes to get in the way, he would of dived in the way of that punch to say the round was over.

bayless did nothing worth even mentioning, like always

Pac is a superstar, so Kenny hesitated for a few secord before waving it off.

Anyone notice the extra few seconds he gave him after the first knockdown?
