It's safe to say he has a less-than-average chin. And taking into account his talent and hype as a fighter, his deficiencies will always be magnified beyond what's reasonable.

But I think it's pretty accurate to say that at:

    135 - it was appalling
140 - not been tested yet, but will still be pretty vulnerable.

The Maidana fight should tell us a little more.

For Khan's frame and height 5'10 140 is his natural weight, meaning Khan was weight drained at 135 which added to his weak chin not holding up i feel.

x2. I think he desperatly wanted to win a title at 135 and pretty much starved himself to make the weight and also we saw the transformation of Amirs body shape when he trained under freddie/ariza. He's alot more semetrical which helps his balance and his legs are much stronger. At 135, he was training his upper body way too much to build 'power' as he was only known to have speed. This was his downfall.

Does being young, as khan is and was when he suffered his knockdowns, affect his chin? sounds stupid? yeah. But does somebody hitting you thats older more in the knowing of a boxing technique etc make a difference? to a younger man as khan is? I know his chin is shocking btw just looking at something different answer wise!

Madaina would knock many lww out never mind what or how bad khans chin is.

But i expect khan to take this 12 rounds UD.

I don't know if I agree. His knockdowns are so dramatic; it's like he is hit with a ton of bricks. That tells me that the problem is more than a weight/comfort issue.

We'll see on 12/11 though. He'll be tested and will have to eat some bombs to score the win.

    Yep agree 100%

His knockdowns were like someone hitting a power botton on his head, temple shots are the one which effected Khan the most.

The brain is around 80% water, weight draining also includes dehydration meaning lack of water in the body. This could of lead Khan to backouts when someone hit his temple, plus dehydration effects the whole body, makes it weaker.

I think Khan has been decked by more shots to the temple than his chin, a strong indicator a being very dehydrated at 135". As for Maidana, if he connects then yes, Kahn will go down but so would almost anyone at 140", the guy is a proven powerpuncher.

I hear he had problems in the amateurs, but don't watch ams so couldn't tell you.

he has a knockdown against a guy called Rachid Drilzane, not an experienced guy or big puncher, but as i recall it was nothing he just got his leg trapped in the rope and went over or something like that, you can't hold that one against him.

I remember he got dropped by Willie Limmond, who's a good domestic level fighter but not a huge puncher. The way his management steered him towards light punching Limmond for the Commonwealth belt rather than harder hitting Jon Thaxton for the British title, John Murray another top British guy, or that dude who was European champ at the time but name escapes me and could punch a bit, tells you something about how worried about his chin they already were.

He was in serious trouble against Micheal Gomez and down in that fight too, Gomez was never better than a domestic level fighter and considered to be on the way down by that time.

Then there's the Prescott fight where he was wobbled easily and downn twice, KO'd in 54 seconds. Sometimes fighters suffer losses on the way up and go on the be great, but it'd certainly be unusable to be so badly thrashed by a guy who's been showed up repeatedly as a limited slugger and go on to be something special.

Since then he's been fighting in a way that has resulted in him hardly being hit, and has been carefully matched.

We'll see what happens when he fights Maidana, who's like a higher quality version of Prescott, to see if that loss was a fluke or he's a product of careful match making and fast reflexes rather than a real fighter.

Nah..he has a glass jaw no question. He'll get stopped if he gets reckless rushing in those exchange that's the way it will happen. He has to move a pick his shot and not stand infront of Maidana. With the Prescott fight. KHAN's flashy action has gotten to his head and he went and traded with Pressy and got caught. With a jab, left hook and right hand which he never recovered from, watch him run to Prescott in the opening stanza. This is exactly what happened to ORTIZ kid got too revved up.He's gotta respect Maidana's power specially in the early rounds.

I think the size of the ring will have a great influence on the result, as Khans obvious strategy is to box on the outside and use jabs and right hands, in the same style he beat kotelnik with.

Maidana will need to bullrush him and force the fight to get the win.
