I collect as many fight films as I can and I've picked up quite a few DVD's featuring early champs such as Jack Johnson, Benny Leonard etc.

A lot of the fights on these DVD's, like Jack Johnson v Jess Willard and Bob Fitzsimmons v Jim Corbett, feature only the highlights. Does anyone know if it is possible to buy these old fights in full? For example, the complete 15 rounds of Jack Johnson v Jim Jeffries. They must exist somewhere.

I've been looking out for about 25 years and still don't have anything concrete to tell you - I'm as much in the dark as you - if anyone else can answer this in any way I'd be just as interested:good

PS Young Corbet IV - from one fan to another here is something which came up recently - you probably knew about this before now - but just incase you didn't its a gem - hope you enjoy it pal

Thanks for the link. That's terrific stuff! :thumbsup

Just a note; I have a biography of Jim Corbett by Patrick Myler and the author states that during his research he watched all 14 rounds of Corbett v Fitzsimmons. Also, during the events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Johnson v Jeffries in Reno last year there was apparently a showing of the complete fight. So the films must exist somewhere.

yeah the film I have of the Fitz-Corbett bout is about 7 rounds I think - I'll have to go back and double check but yeah the full films obviously do exist - bugs me why no one hasn't just put them out as one package - until about 10 or 15 years ago all you could ever find on the Fitz-Corbett bout were about the 2 worst bits of footage from the whole thing!! :huh Stupid really

The entire Fitz-Corbett does not exist. A lot of times what you see is what exists. These old films were often on multiples reels and over time reels got lost or destroyed and the films deteriorated, leaving only pieces for us to watch now.
