    Fighters of all levels

I'm sure we all had our gym wars when rival boxing gyms come to your gym to spar.

So the question is after a dirty tactic is done to you how do you know the other fighters intentions are pure during the rest of the fight/sparring session? From my point of view as an fighter who just got illegal hit, after touching gloves how do you know the other fighters intention to hug or do whatever is pure? Ortiz's hug could of turned into a legal hook landed on floyd.

When our gym used to go to Baltimore gym for work, a hand shake can turn into a elbow in seconds can you really risk dropping your guard to accept somebody's hug/handshake whatever after a jumping head butt?

Bigger than Cortez looking confused is that Ortiz engaged Floyd, so you're supposed to wait to find out what his intentions are during a fight? Thats how you end up ****ed up.

What do ya think, and what's ya gym rules?

Never thought about this, Ortiz could have just as easily hit Mayweather...he wasn't going to IMO, but like you said, Ortiz had spent the fight headbutting Mayweather...so how was he supposed to know?

Good point. The way Ortiz put his hands out could have made Floyd think he was trying to get him into a clinch so he could land to the body or just do what you said.

If I was in Ortiz' spot, I would have been very sorry apologized and right when I touched gloves put my hands up right away and gotten ready. I've been in fights and sparred, if something like that happens and I get caught, I usually blame myself for it.

One time I was sparring and my friend was holding the timer and he said there was 10 seconds left. His dumbass forgot to tell us to stop and 15 seconds later I put my guard down thinking the round should be over and I got caught. I was mad at the time, but it was more me being mad at myself for not being alert

I think everybody in the gym has been punched for stopping early or fighting to late lol. The Coach says fight, and you say huh, and eat a right hand lol

:yep exactly man. You can get pissed off at the guy who hit you all you want, but it's your own fault. I personally wouldn't hit a guy like that though

We dont put up with it, and if its that bad, the fighter is asked to leave the gym, and if its an outsider he will never get any work from us again.

Bottom line even in sparring you dont need to foul to be asked to leave, if you go in there and have much more experience and try to knock out a lesser greener sparring partner your gone....
Bottom line its work, there is a difference between someone getting their ass whipped in hard sparrin than someone putting a beat down in sparring on someone just because they feel the need to.....

Yep. I say the same thing. Before and after the fight, not during. Not there to be buddy buddy with the guy.

And on your point about the illegal blow, the natural instinct is to get pissed off and retaliate.
