I dont understand how one Punch can knock you 15 places down the P4P list. I personally hate williams since he got schooled by quinatana but I don't think it's right that one punch delivered by martinez knocked him down 15 places on the P4P list, meanwhile elevating Martines to top 5??

Williams boxing skill is still the same as it was, and if there was a rematch then he may go the distance. These are some reasons which makes me think the P4P list is a joke and should exisit

His relevance as a top fighter and legitimacy at the elite level was going to either solidify or decrease because of this fight, due to its importance. With that one punch knockout, Martinez brought the goods and Williams underperformed. It's not necessarily his fault that one punch knocked him out, but it is his and his teams (and Martinez's) fault it landed.

It's not one punch, it's a failure to hit "refresh" on his ranking good enough leading up to that fight and the fight itself included.

Well, think of it this way - Williams is one punch away from getting himself right back in the top spot again (depending on whom he knocks out). The PFP list is just an endless race. Leads constantly change and is for the most part subjective.

i think the flop against cintron counts against him too.

id say it is the same as if davd haye was to seriously get destroyed by wlad, coming off that horror show of a fight against audley harrison, i could see david haye dropping considerably

to be fair floy shouldn't be, p4p obviously as mention before is an endless race and you have to maintain your position. not achieve it and remain number one becuase nobody beat you. Even thou i think floyd would beat pacquiao, I will have to give the number one spot to pacquiao as of now

I kind of agree with this, but at the same time he is still IMO the most skilled boxer of my era, hence why he is still up there. But i hear after 1 year of inactivity he will be removed, which is coming up soon.

    anyway......

The p4p list means little to me. I make my own and dont really pay too much attention to it as its hard to say who is the best between so many different weight catergories.

imo, your current standing, activeness, level of competition and dominance (depends which you value more: UD, SD, KO, TKO?) against your opponent defines your position in the P4P. A meaningful loss will definitely affect your position. i agree, PW shouldn't drop 15 places down. Maybe we'll see after his next fight.

Here's a question......WOuld it be possible to ever move up the rankings by losing a fight? Has this happened before?

e.g. Khan beats Bradley which puts him #9 p4p. Then he matches up with Mayweather. The fight goes to the wire, its an all out war, both boxers have ht the canvas through the fight but get up, then Mayweather wins a very close SD. Surely Khan moves up hte p4p a little.

The p4p list should show the best current boxers. Sadly it seems to be a popularity contest, I agree that Williams shouldn't have dropped 15 places as he is an excellent fighter. By the same measure I dont think that Donaire should suddenly become #2/3 on the back of 1 KO.

P4P lists are deeply subjective & dont accurately reflect reality.

Martinez got into the Ring's top 10 P4P after his first fight with Williams, where he lost on the cards. Before this, I believe he was not even top 20.

If you think the p4p lists are a joke (and I pretty much agree) then why complain if PWilliams is not on peoples top 10 anymore?

p4p lists are mostly for marketing, P williams was never one of the 10 best boxers in the world, but it suited the American TV networks to have him on such lists so they could sell his fights.
