It depends. A guy can control a round and not land much, then get hit with the best punch of the round and get visibly buzzed. Or a guy can pepper another guy for 3 minutes with ease, get momentarily stunned, but regain his bearings. Those are two ways of looking at the same broad scenario.

As for the round itself, I'd have to watch it again.

rounds should be scored based on who hurt the opponent more. Thats why Provodnikov should get the round unless the accumalation of jabs and few rights is more damaging. I agree with Kellerman's "who would you rather be" way of scoring.

Scoring a fight or scoring a boxing match! Punches that land on target regardless of effect. he who connects more should win, if it's a toss up then ring generalship/defence should come into play. But TV companies want to sell a fight not a boxing match. Leonard won the boxing match but Hagler won the fight if yer get me drift.

I think there should be an "even round" option, as this round pretty much exemplifies what a 10-10 round entails. Bradley controls and at points dominates the first two minutes but doesn't hurt Prov. Rusland comes back, lands a few shots that hurt Timmy...and then the two trade on more or less even terms over the last thirty seconds.

Really not much to separate the two in this frame, imo.

in a close round, aggressor should get the nod.

thing is, they were both the aggressors in that round. bradley was coming forward in the beginning. and even when Brad was hurt, he was still coming @ ruslan.

then i would go to my next tie breaker...who landed more of the power/harder punches.

Yeah, initially I scored it for Ruslan, but upon thinking it over, I thought that this did a disservice to Bradley's good work through the first two minutes, and to the fact that he recovered and traded punch for punch for the last 20-30 seconds.

I know the thread asks whether one prefers the short explosive burst or the lengthier period of control...and it's a valid question to ask. But that's something that can only be answered on a case by case basis, since no round unfolds identically with another. In some cases, the guy landing the harder punches wins the round, and in some cases, it's not enough to overcome the control over the longer period of time.

In this case, everything evened out, which is why I think 10-10 isn't a cop out...but rather the most accurate way to score the round.
