I noticed on boxrec, that following the Clay losses, Liston fought four times between 1966-67 in Sweden in the Stockholm area. Do you suppose he lived over there for the year that he fought those guys? Apparently Ingemar co-promoted these fights. Any chance that perhaps Sonny sparred with him a bit just for shits and giggles?

I assume he lived there for a year.
I seem to remembering reading he and his wife adopted a Swedish orphan.
I heard he adopted a few kids, wonder what they grew up to be.

Yeah, I guess Liston was in exile after the farce of the Lewiston fight.

I don't know why he bothered returning to the states. Living in Swedan probably would have provided a better life for him than coming back to the whole mob scene and everything else. He should have applied for citizenship. perhaps it would have prolonged his life. I'm sure Ingo could have been his full time promotor and gotten him a bunch of Euro title fights and stuff of that nature.

Is pro boxing not banned in sweden though?,what year did that occur?,i seem to recall attila levin having to go to fight in america because of this issue, when and why did they ban it?,was it because its deemed as to violent and the like,i know they are a feminist country in that they have now a near 50/50 spilt with men and women in most levels of power, was it anything to do with this?,as feminists im sure view boxing as a typical male thing, and im sure dont like it.

I thought I wrote in my post that the years were 1966-67, and that Ingemar Johansen had promoted the fights.

I think Floyd Patterson was over there briefly in the '60's getting his career jump-started too.
