When Cassius is fighting Liston, going into the forth round i think.... Liston told his trainer to let him have it..... And then he came out sticking his glove alot in Clay's face, and seemed like something took away Clay's vision. Does anyone know what that is about or if it has any truth to it?
you can see ali cearly having probelms seeing in the 4th and 5th round mesh. the theory is that it was an old school remedy for cuts...monsels solution that used to clot your cuts up nice and well...sadly it caused major bruising and if it got in your eyes you were blinded or at least irritated by the solution on th eyes. it hase never been properly examined it's just a mix of a myth and a legend.
It is true that Ali's eyes burned in the fourth round against Liston, to the extent that he was afraid to continue the fight before Dundee pushed him out for the fifth. No one knows exactly what caused this problem. It may simply have been a botched cut job with Liston's ointments getting rubbed into Ali's eyes during a clinch or somesuch, or it may have been deliberate cheating on the part of Liston and/or his handlers. Al Bernstein has said that two of Liston's other opponents also complained of similar problems, though I've never seen this verified.
I saw an Ali documentary recently that focused mostly on the Ali-Liston fights. The historians in the doc said it was a deliberate move putting the ointment on Liston's gloves to blind Ali because Liston was losing. In the same doc, Dundee said Ali wanted to quit and he made him go back out. They talked about all this as if it was fact.
i agree it's not fact and there is no proper evidence except alis burning eyes. but lets not pretend that liston is in soft company..he is a tough guy and will get the job done...if he dies he dies
