What came to mind was Tyson. While when he threw it it was powerful... it was not used very often and seemed like more of a distance finder for his other devastating shots

Mosely is actually a pretty good call ... he barely throws a meaningful jab that i can remember.
I would say its a range finder at best.

Hah even the biggest hater has to admit Wlad has a great jab.
Pretty sure the guy was joking Chef.

Out of curiosity Chef now that you are on the thread .... did you ever hear Manny talk about Vitali's jab ? .... i think its actually highly underrated considering he pretty much shut down Peter with just his left hand.

he had an okay one for someone with his style and in his era, very different punch from what you'll see today though used as a jab. read his manual. good shout though

Larry Holmes, Sonny Liston, Muhammad Ali

    ...

a GREAT jab is one that is great independent of beneficial factors like height and reach....
(a jab that is only proficient on these factors.... i.e. Wladmir Klitschko....will not work much at a closer range, and is not great)....

look at the fighters mentioned above...and notice how they often landed short, fast jabs, or jabs from acute, awkward angles, with great speed....

larry holmes probably had the best jab IMO...but Ali threw some of the most breathtaking jabs ive ever seen, at all sorts of varying ranges, on the inside and out....

    bull****...

wlad has a jab that is effective in this present **** era, due to his height and reach...with all the fighters he has beaten.....being slow, plodding, and mediocre opposition, compared to heavyweights of previous eras.....and when two or three fighters have managed to get inside it.....he has been KTFO....

yes wlad has improved his defences somewhat, being able to tighten it so these plodding, slow fighters cannot get inside, but a great, or even semi great heavyweight would have been able to rip inside and hurt Wlad with ease.....

a GREAT jab is one that can be thrown regardless of height and reach being a factor (although there is nothing wrong with using height and reach in conjunction with the jab at long range).....

see larry holmes, muhammad ali, and sonny liston....even mike tyson.....ive seen all four of the above, able to knock guys out with a SINGLE JAB (liston, tyson), or stun them to the point where they are then finished off by a right hand....with a SINGLE JAB.......

this cannot be compared to Wlad, who has been up against mediocre guys who he has occassionally jabbed, leaned on for 11 or so rounds, and finished off, more to the fact of exhaustion than anything else

    :patsch

Jab is for gays. You don't deflect your opponent. You fight him. Let him in, then hit it big.

Oh, if you want to win just on points, just keep on jabbing.
