why in the heck didnt the ref stop it sooner? in todays sport hed be arrested for letting go on like that. i just finished watching it and after jakes last hurrah in the 11th it was horrible to watch. the man absorbed tremendous punishment. also want to know why in the nardico fight after jake was knocked down why didnt the ref stop it. jake was holding onto the top rope while nardico was teeing off on him. whent the bell rang you could see him locking his knees out just to make it back to his corner. that would never happen today.was murder legal back then?we all know lamotta was toung but gee whiz.

Yes rds 12 & 13 were painfull for Lamotta, his corner should have pulled him after or during the 12th.... there is a side to me tho that is curious to know if in fact Ray could have floored him if it wasnt stopped in the 13th.... one or two things are for sure, either Ray would have got tired hitting him & settled for the points win by cruising the remainder or Jake would have fell & almost died.

I watched the kinescope of this match in it's entirety on the Nostalgia channel some years ago, before I ever watched the movies of it, and felt that the referee timed the stoppage perfectly then. That final punch sent Jake's head spinning in a way that previous shots didn't appear to. The movie film is far more graphic than the kinescope rebroadcast was.
