sorry beebs and mma fans , ive been running around the mma forum like a pissed off school girl since toney got his ass kicked , btw brotha i enjoy ur posts , u deff know ur stuff , but a serious question if i might , why is it always boxing vs mma , why not muy thai vs mma? or judo vs mma ? or ect , ive noticed lately ufc is talking alot about guys using their boxing in stand up matches , just like they use their muy thai or bjj or wrestling , so my point i guess is by stating using boxing doesnt that mean that it would become a facet of mma , a style if u wish ? i dont understand why mma and boxing have to go against eachother , if one is a facet of the other , most all fighting styles used in mma have their own competitions and leageus , yet they are facets of mma , id appreciate some input if possible .
A lot of mma fighters implement boxing tools in their styles. There are useful principles and techniques to be learned from boxing. One of the most effective, and underutilized in mma, is the jab. Boxing, as a style on its own, has not proven to be very effective in mma. Mercer tagged Sylvia quickly proving it's not impossible for a boxer to win an mma fight. Mercer vs Sylvia has been the exception thus far, and not the norm. To answer your question about why it's always boxing vs mma, I guess it is because professional boxing is the top dog in combat sport popularity. If mma continues to grow as it has that will no longer be the case. I think a lot of people are threatened by this for reasons ranging from financial to sentimental.
Also, unloco, don't hold my avatar against me. I lost a bet. I'm avoiding the classic section for the rest of the month. I don't want boxing fans actually believing this is my honest opinion.
lol nice pic , thanks for the input brotha , theres no shame in a delahoya avatar in his prime he was a beast and had a left hook that was devastating , but i see ur point
I agree, in the sense that Muay Thai or BJJ or Judo as individual sports are not as popular on the level that professional boxing is. In Thailand, of course, Muay Thai is extremely popular, but universally boxing is considered to be the most well-known and popular combat sport. MMA has been on such a rise as of late that if statistics say boxing is still number one, chances are they won't stay that way for long. Also, many professional boxers have been outspoken against MMA, most likely in defense of their own sport because they are losing popularity while MMA is gaining it. This in a sense makes them and their sport feel threatened, so they choose to call MMA "gay guys wrestling with panties on" (Bernard Hopkins). I was a fan of boxing before I became a fan of MMA, and I will always love both. The reasons MMA as a sport is becoming so popular are vast, though the most obvious seems to be the quality of cards put together not only by the UFC, but other MMA promotions as well. In boxing, most people buy PPV's for the main event, and that alone, though at times there are cards worth buying for their entirety, especially when the main event isn't enough to sell the card alone. Boxing could and should take some of the techniques MMA is using to gain popularity and put on stellar cards, though it seems that with money and "ducking" being such an issue in boxing, this dream will not come to fruition. It's unfortunate.
thanks for the input , great stuff, i agree weak cards are killing boxing ,also the best are scarred to fight the best
You haven't been very bad at all, and you make a lot of good points. Don't worry about it, emotions were high and tension thick.
Because MMA is a direct competitor of boxing, or so it is perceived as such by many promoters. They believe, making new fans for their sport happens by taking away from the other. This kind of thought is passed on to publications. That's why you see and hear a lot of "MMA vs boxing". Once they're in the ring and it's usually MMA fighter vs another MMA who specialize in different areas. Of course in situations like Toney vs Couture, it's a clear cut boxer because Toney has no experience in MMA, he's a BIG name in boxing, and he is being welcomed by a seasoned MMA fighter. Hence "boxing vs MMA". This, in a way, grand notion puts butts into seats and gets PPV buys. From there it trickles down to average troll fans to discuss MMA vs boxing which almost instantly cascades down into an e-war between MMA and boxing fans. I think more open minded people have a clear perspective on where MMA and boxing stand. They prefer one, both, or neither, but possess no aggression or disdain for both sports. Does that answer your question?
UFC in particular has a vested interest in boxing fans for the views. Also, boxing has poked and prodded MMA a bit, which only motivates a guy like Dana White. Its not MMA vs. Boxing. It's UFC vs. Boxing promoters like ufoalf says.
BEcause Boxers are the ones running their mouthes about how MMA is gay/sucks etc etc. Do you see any thai fighters doing that? wrestlers? bjj? boxers and the sport of boxing feels a bit threatened, although they should ahve nothing to worry about since they're 2 completely different sports and boxing has a lot more international appeal than ufc/mma, ufc appeals to the white crowd of the usa, not so much the international global scene like boxing. Also, try not to think about it as boxing vs mma, in reality its more like boxing vs ufc. Not all mma fans are ufc fans, its really the ufc fans and ufc advocates that are the problems. There's a difference between an mma fan and a ufc fan.
because their can be only one supreme combat sport. if mma defeats boxing it gets like 10,000 quickenings and becomes powerful beyond everything! This content is protected This content is protected
