Seriously, not being a twat but I'm just curious. If Lesnar V Carwin II was booked for, say, UFC118. Who do you think would win?
I agree with you and probably 99.9% of everybody else who watches MMA does too. Just wondered what Beebs thinks.
How do you guys determine this crap? I'm not the biggest Lesnar fan at all, but you give him no benefit of the doubt as a professional fighter that he can make adjustments? In all honestly, when he fought Carwin, Lesnar showed more versatility on his game. He got the takedown in round 2 and actually subbed Carwin just a few moments later. Sure Carwin once again would have a punchers chance and he's dangerous, but right away assuming he "finishes the job he couldn't do the first time?" It was said right there, CARWIN COULDN'T DO IT. I think 99.9% of realistic people who watch MMA, would think this. Lesnar of course has the edge coming in. He's got a better ground game and if Carwin gasses again, its over.
Obviously it's not 100% deffinate. But I think that Carwin would have learned alot in the first fight. He'd never seen the end of round 1 before. I think it's a bit like Hughes GSP 1. Made a mistake first title shot but has really got the guys number. That's all.
I see your point but the thing about Hughes & GSP is that GSP was a better athlete than Hughes, and brut strength for GSP also played a factor against Hughes as well. Carwin is the lesser athlete, and if being taken to the 2nd round was a problem for him then he's gonna lose a lot more fights. He's not gonna put everybody away. He's a big puncher I'll give him that. He almost took Lesnar out, but Lesnar obviously has more of the brains of the 2. He knew Carwin would gas, and all he had to do was ride the wave. I think Lesnar beats Carwin 7 out of 10 times.
What are you basing that on when Carwin was clearly the more dominant fighter for the duration of the fight?
I would take Carwin. I think he can pretty much stuff a Lesnar TD he did in the 1st when he is not gassed and his stand up is lightyears ahead. If Carwin does not gas then I would take him by KO.
Fair enough mate. It's all about opinions and you clearly see things different to me, but hey, that's what makes it interesting.
Overeem would have a better chance of beating Lesnar than Carwin does IMO. Carwin is a just a heavy handed fighter, Overeem is a real striker. He's a K-1 level Kickboxer, and also has the size to compete with Lesnar. That's a fight I would like to see. And yes Overeem would ice Carwin. In the first round IMO.
I agree. At this point Overeem is a legit Heavyweight hes had years now to build this muscle and he looks and feels great. Id bet hes as strong as anyone maybe outside Lesnar. Add in his skill set this guy like you said is a K-1 fighter not just that though hes smashed some top guys like Badr Hari, Teixera and my favorite Peter Aerts. Also Overeem has solid wrestling skills and pretty good Jiujitsu reminds me slightly of Frank Mir when he can get ahold of something he has such a powerful squeeze even if the technique isnt perfect its going to be hard as **** to get out. Remember a weight drained Overeem Guillotined Vitor Belfort and that is no easy feet Vitor has great Jiujitsu skills.
Good post Jimmie. I agree with the Mir comparison as well. Once Overeem's brut strength gets hold of someone, especially with his guillontine, its gonna be very difficult to get him off. He'd give Lesnar a better challenge than Carwin did, and Carwin would get taken out.
