I heard a lot of trainers and experts say that fighters with wide shoulders is a sign that they are knockout punchers is this true and if it is why, is it because they can get more leverage or is it something else. many thanks,
Max Rosenbloom had wide shoulders and was probably the weakest punching champion in the history of boxing.
Ive been told the same thing, but overall punching power is a natural God given gift that can be perfected by technique and proper execution. The broad shoulders, big legs, or any other physical characteristics associated with punchers is part of that God given gift.
Max Baer had extra wide shoulders, yet Joe Louis had sloping shoulders, and Danny Lopez & Alexis Arguello almost didn't have shoulder width, yet they could embalm a man with a punch.
Bob Foster Jimmy Wilde Lew Jenkins George Chaney Stanley Ketchel All slender and all big time punchers, Bottom line is, bangers come in all shapes and sizes.
i boxed with a lad who said something similar about big legs. he was a puncher with a weak chin but another mate with the same big legs had a solid chin and no punch.as mcvey says ....all shapes and sizes. what about boxers with bigger heads takeing a better punch......ie lamotta ali and bonavena
You mean ole Slapsie Maxie? But I think some of that had to do with his style. Slapping and a lot of defense.
