Peak is the right word for it, and most fans dont understand how it works. You did a good job breaking it down :good

Usually most boxers start the hard training 30-45 days before the fight to be at "peak" the weekend of the fight. At least most boxers that I know do that.

Now I dont want to use it as an excuse for his lost but the Tito vs Hopkins was a good example of "peak performance", as we all know boxing is 90% mental and 10% physical. IMHO when the fight was postponed for two weeks later after what happened in NYC that week, it hurt Tito more than it did Hopkins. Now mind you that Im not using that as an excuse for the lost but only as an example before people here star getting all bend out of shape lol.

the great manny (and i am sure many other trainers) had his guys not spar too much. he wanted them to have some hunger for the fight night rather than blowing it all in sparring. that is basically what overtraining is. Sometimes youll see guys sparring 150+ rounds and not being in peak form for fight night due to overtraining. I think manny's guys only spar like 100 or less rounds. I could be wrong about the number of rounds but im sure you get my point.

on another note too. i dunno if you work out or anything, but if you do try this. Do some bench presses (or whatever). now do the same weight and reps the very next day. You will see that you will be weak as hell. Now wait 3 or 4 days and try it. You will be stronger. That is basically how it works.

One thing that can be forgotten in boxing... Everything has to be geared towards being at your optimum on fight night...

I have seen fighters get thier weight down gradually and start looking sharp nearer the fight gets then look excellent with a few days to go...

Then what ??? You are at your best and have 2 / 3 days to your event.

You need to start to see when the fighter is looking sharp , and having an easy day on mitts or light bagwork..
easing off a bit and then having en extra special workout 3 days to go, stop sparring that day and on weigh in day just do a complete morning of stretching , flexability and pad work focussing on strategy and fight plan.

Day before fight , have a run and have the whole team go eat somewhere nice to load up a bit on clean carbs and for general morale..

Day of fight just leave fighter alone to rest a while, let someone from team spend day with him or room with him and go have relaxing walk on golf course or something.. Eat decent meal earlyish and have light snack close to leaving for arena.. no exersize just keep the mood light and make him comfortable so he can feel strong.. I know a few heavyweights that like to lift light weights for an hour in the morning to wake the muscles up a bit..

The strongest day is not then left in the gym.. Its ready for that fight ring...

He will be primed for a heavy workout (ie.. Fight)

Mind clear, physically strong and energized.. and knowledge that the team are all behind him ..

This is right. Just to add that different guys seem to be able to peak for different amounts of time. Some guys can stayed peaked for weeks, other guys are red hot for only a couple of days.
