Say hes got 3 fights left and Malignaggi is probably the next one what would he have to do to gain your respect? If he beat 3 belt holders at 140 and then retired with 1 loss to PBF would he rank as a truly world class operator? If he did Pacman and put up a good show against PBF the same.Or had a ding dong with Cotto. Please tell me what he has to do.I suspect that all you Haters have got a bone in your mouth and wont let go.You will never admit your wrong and always find fault no matter what.So come on prove me wrong and give me your formula for Hatton to gain your respect before he retires.
If he beats Malignaggi and then Witter (should he regain his title) then I think he could retire happy as a great fighter. Tszyu-Castillo-Mayweather - he's fought the great fighters. Urango-Maussa-Collazo-Malignaggi - he's fought the champions. Tackie-Lazcano-Magee - he's fought the contenders. He's had a solid career.
Oh just what we need, another Hatton thread. This time with an aggressive, provoking title. Should lead to some more sensible, structured debabte. To be honest I see no point in a return to 147 because, by his own admission, he is not effective there. Cotto would brutalise him & all we'd get is the "not his weight" excuse. Malignaggi, Witter if he regains his belt & Pacman would round off a fairly solid career. I just wish Hatton had taken the Mayweather fight at 140 then after losing stayed there & cleaned up that way.
Its not meant to be provoking in anyway.its a serious question which you and i hope everyone else answers sensibly
Maybe not but it is. I think we're all sick of the bitching on here it's beyind tiresome now. Anyway, what do you think of my assessment? Fair or not?
Thats exactly why ive done the thread.Lets get it down in writing now what would be acceptable and sit back and wait and see instead of constant bickering. If he gets blown away in his next couple of fights then i and all his fans will have to re assess our thoughts on his levels of achievment. But i think the stick he gets currently is harsh to say the least. I think your bang on.I personally think Malignaggi coupled with Witter or Torres and Pacman would set the seal on a great career. We all know Cotto and PBF are to good for him at 147 along with 1 or 2 more but there is no shame in that is there?
No, no shame but then if even a fan such as yourself can see he is not good enough to compete with those guys can you understand why we think a rematch with Floyd will only be a money fight?
i'm not a hater but can i still play? hatton has a three fight deal with hbo, and i think thats realistically all he has left, so i can't see forsee a fight with junior witter in there. we'll have malignaggi, followed by pacman followed by a PBF rematch. i think he'll have had a solid career by the time he retires, and i can see him being inducted into the HOF five years later (due to his popularity and not necessarily his achievements). he'll be considered a modern great in terms of british boxing, but not a world great.
Thats what every boxer is in the sport for to make money is it not.Hatton would be a massive underdog and it would be a hell of a pay day but it doesnt mean Hatton wont be giving it his all. Most match ups are one sided but we still watch and enjoy them thats boxing. And no doubt everybody on this board would still watch it with interest. We would all like to see the dream match ups at every weight but there you go.Hatton with exciting style, his fan base and popularity is in a position to secure fights with such opponents and good luck to him.I can think of a hell of a lot more less worthy opponents PBF could get in with!
**SIGH** But then this is the issue isn't it? I thought you said what fights give him a great legacy? Getting beaten up by PBF in a division which he says he's not effective in again does nothing for his legacy. Thats the problem with trying to debate this with you Hatton fans, you use two arguments. Firstly the one where you ask us which fights he has to take to be considered great then if that goes against you, you fall back on the old "who wouldn't want to make money" argument. Which is it? It's not fair for you to keep using two arguments.
It was only a response as you did bring the 2nd argument up.I agree with you in as far as it does less for his legacy im just saying he would be stupid not to take the fight and the trappings that come with it and so would anybody else be.And if he did do the unthinkable and actually win then it does more. But i think if he did what you said that should be the way forward and that would be enough for me to put him in the British legends catergory. The question is would it be enough for Betty Swollocks and company?I doubt it somehow!
I'm not really a hater per say, I just didn't like his ducking tactics and excuses over the years He still has the chance to go down as a great at 140, if he comes back from defeat and unifies this division. I'm thinking if he fights Malignaggi, Torres and then perhaps Bradley. No world beaters, but he'd have a really solid set of wins at 140, including Tszyu, Urango, Castillo (albeit shot) etc I'm not worried about him fighting Pacquiao, as I don't see a real contest there. It would be a nice farewell fight, but thats about all I can say for it. Mayweather/Cotto should be non-issues, he just gets beaten up
Fck malignaggi, witter and bradley, they mean nothing. I rather see him fight the likes of Cotto. No way he ever beats PBF as that guy is something special. However he beat Cotto and he gets my respect, if he has his arse handed to him like PBF did then he is exposed.
"Exposed", the most over used word on EBS, along with "shot". Hattons reputation/ legacy as a boxer does not rest on whether he takes, or how well he does in, a Cotto fight.
